According to Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, artificial intelligence will change every job, and people will need to learn new skills to stay relevant in the workforce.
He told the BBC’s Newsnight that even highly skilled professionals won’t be safe from the impact of this new technology, and that all jobs could be affected.
According to Pichai, artificial intelligence is the most important technology humans are currently developing. He believes it offers incredible potential, but we also need to address the challenges and changes it will bring to society.
He explained that the technology will change some jobs, requiring people to adjust. Certain roles will be affected as a result.
“People who adapt to AI will do better”
Pichai explained that the impact of these changes won’t just be felt in basic or routine jobs; AI will affect all types of work. He even suggested that his own role as CEO could eventually be taken over by artificial intelligence, describing it as one of the simpler tasks AI could handle.
He believes that people who learn to use AI tools will have a significant edge. According to the Google executive, “AI will change all jobs, from teaching to medicine, but those who thrive will be the ones who know how to work with these new technologies.”
Sundar Pichai also spoke about the worries of new workers facing a job market that’s already been changed by automation.
Instead of worrying about which jobs will survive AI, Sundar Pichai advises students and those starting their careers to focus on developing skills that will remain valuable, as no particular field is completely safe from the impact of artificial intelligence.
When asked about advising children, he stated he wouldn’t alter his traditional approach. He believes many different fields will become important, and he urges young people to embrace technology and learn how to apply it to their chosen careers.
In the same interview, the Google exec also warned users not to blindly trust what AI tells them.
