I’ve been trying to dive into the world of Kratos and Atreus again, but alas, the SDK Runtime Missing error has left me high and dry.
Recently, Sony has been keeping quite busy. They’ve unveiled the contentious PS5 Pro alongside a 30th anniversary collection, yet they haven’t neglected the software market. A while ago, Sony initiated a strategy of transferring previously exclusive games to PC. The latest game adhering to this approach is the second installment of Kratos’ adventures in the Scandinavian territories – God of War: Ragnarok. While the initial title from the Norse mythology series was warmly welcomed by PC gamers, the sequel hasn’t had the same lucky break. Numerous fans have encountered problems launching it due to an SDK Runtime Missing error. Let’s examine the situation to determine if there’s a potential solution for this issue.

It appears there’s been a significant issue with the reception of God of War Ragnarok on PC, as fans have been rather critical. They’ve highlighted concerns about audio quality, poor performance, controller problems, and mouse control issues. Additionally, there’s been some controversy surrounding the requirement of PSN accounts in this singleplayer game, a decision Sony made previously that has sparked debate.
Furthermore, numerous discussion threads have been initiated by disappointed players on Steam Community Hub, where they express issues with the game being completely unresponsive. One of these threads contains a suggestion from one of the developers. The advice given is to repeat the process of running two msi files, which can typically be found by default in the specified location.
These files are referred to as “PsPcSdkRuntimeInstaller.msi” and “PsPcSdkRuntimeManager.msi”. While they might help resolve some issues for users, there are some enthusiasts who have reported that these files don’t seem to function effectively.
It appears that the installation of those files might be problematic since they should automatically run during the game’s initial startup through an install script. This issue can cause the game to freeze, making it inaccessible without any additional error messages. To resolve this, you could consider closing the “Windows Installer” task in Task Manager and then attempting to run the specified files once more. An alternate solution is simply pressing “Play” on Steam. Additionally, restarting your computer might help as well because it will also halt the installer process, allowing you to re-run the files again. Lastly, it may be beneficial to try running them with administrative privileges.
