Prime Video has shared the first images of Ryan Hurst and Callum Vinson as Kratos and Atreus in the upcoming God of War TV series, but many fans are commenting that the images appear to be artificially generated.
The new series is inspired by the 2018 game God of War, telling the story of Kratos and his son Atreus as they journey to spread the ashes of Kratos’s mother from the highest point in all nine realms.
The game draws inspiration from Norse mythology, and the narrative gradually unveils that the boy, Atreus, is actually Loki, a Norse God.
Okay, so the God of War TV show is really starting to come together! They’ve got some awesome actors lined up – Ólafur Darri Ólafsson is going to be Thor, Ed Skrein is Baldur, and even Alastair Duncan, who was Mimir in the games, is back! But honestly, the first picture they released? Fans weren’t exactly thrilled with it. It didn’t really hit the mark for a lot of us.
Fans think the God of War TV series “looks like AI”
The initial screenshot from the new God of War game depicts Kratos and his son, Atreus, in a thick forest, with Atreus practicing archery. However, the image hasn’t been well-received by fans, with some suggesting it appears to be artificially created using AI.

Several users on X commented on the poor quality of the work, with one hoping it was created by AI and another suggesting it appeared to be AI-generated. A third person expressed surprise, initially believing it was a fake.
However, people weren’t happy with how the image itself looked. One person commented that while the casting was perfect, the picture wasn’t, suggesting the actor needed to appear more muscular. Another simply called it “terrible.”
This scene depicts Kratos instructing his son, Atreus, in the art of hunting, which ties into the game’s central themes. It highlights Atreus’s growth and emotional development as he matures throughout their journey across the nine realms and learns what it means to become a man.
