Go Full Obamacore With the Hamilton Reunion

At Cynthia Erivo’s opening, it was clear that the 2025 Tony Awards reunion of Hamilton, a decade later, served as a comforting escape for those yearning to revisit the Obama era. Lin-Manuel Miranda, Phillipa Soo, Leslie Odom Jr., Jonathan Groff, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Daveed Diggs, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Okieriete Onaodowan and Christopher Jackson reunited to transport us back to 2015. A time when Miranda could joke about Trump not becoming president on SNL, and Soo was unaware of what pica meant. Dressed in theater blacks reminiscent of Sunset Boulevard, the cast sang a medley of “Non-Stop,” “My Shot,” “The Schuyler Sisters,” “You’ll Be Back,” “The Room Where it Happens” and “History Has Its Eyes on You.” Accompanying them were numerous original Hamilton performers, including Ariana DeBose as the Bullet.

Initially, it appeared as though Anthony Ramos had followed in Patti Lupone’s footsteps by missing the 2025 Tonys, but instead, he was part of a cherished ensemble with DeBose. As Emmy Raver-Lampman, an original cast member and wife of Daveed Diggs, shared with People, “It was a heartwarming, beautiful gathering of just 28 people we adore so much in one place.” She continued, “We often see each other, but not under these circumstances. So yes, it was truly special.” Renee Elise Goldsberry added that upon entering the rehearsal room, tears of joy welled up from her heart. They group hugged countless times and expressed their deep affection for one another.
