Glen Powell to Co-Write, Star in Judd Apatow Comedy About Country Western Star

As a movie enthusiast, I’m excited to share that I’ve learned about an upcoming comedy project that’s gaining momentum! It seems Universal Pictures is speeding things up for an unnamed laugh-out-loud film, focusing on a struggling country western star. The creative minds behind this production are none other than Judd Apatow, known for his work in “Trainwreck” and “King of Staten Island,” and Glen Powell, who’s made a name for himself in movies like “Twisters” and “Hit Man.” Interestingly, Apatow will not only be directing the film but also co-writing the script with Powell. Can’t wait to see this one unfold!

Through his established partnership with Apatow Productions, Apatow will continue to produce films. His professional bond with Universal Studios stretches back to his directorial debut in 2005 with “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” and since then, he has directed “Knocked Up,” “Funny People,” “This is 40,” “Trainwreck,” and “The King of Staten Island” for the studio.

Through their production company Barnstorm, Powell and Dan Cohen will create projects under their freshly secured first-look deal with Universal, marking the second collaboration with Apatow since the announcement of their first-look deal in February. This partnership with Universal builds upon Powell’s past relationship with the studio, stemming from his starring role in “Twisters,” which earned over $267.8 million at the domestic box office. In addition to this new project, Barnstorm is also working on “The Natural Order” for Universal, with Powell set to star and Barry Jenkins slated as director.

Kevin Misher will create movies through his production company, Misher Films. He has an extensive background with Universal Pictures, serving as the president of production from 1996 to 2001. During this time, he oversaw the production of several of the studio’s critically-acclaimed films such as “Erin Brockovich,” “The Fast and the Furious,” “Meet the Parents,” and “The Mummy.” Following his tenure at Universal, Misher established Misher Films, where he has been producing a diverse range of films over the last two decades. Some of these projects include “Fighting With My Family,” “Coming 2 America,” and “You People.

The Senior Vice President of Production Development, Erik Baiers, will take charge of the project for the studio. Meanwhile, Apatow is associated with WME, Mosaic, ID, and Ziffren Brittenham LLP as his representatives. On the other hand, Powell is represented by CAA and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
