As a longtime action movie enthusiast who has seen Tom Cruise defy gravity countless times, I can confidently say that Glen Powell is either incredibly brave or extremely foolish for considering taking over the “Mission: Impossible” franchise from the master himself. The stunts performed by Cruise in these films are legendary, and many would consider them a death trap. However, if anyone can handle such challenges, it’s probably Glen Powell given his experience alongside Cruise in “Top Gun: Maverick” and his lead role in the tornado-filled “Twisters.
Following an internet buzz regarding Tom Cruise possibly passing the torch for the “Mission: Impossible” series to Glen Powell, sports broadcaster Pat McAfee directly reached out to Powell to verify the claim.
In my recent chat on “The Pat McAfee Show,” I made a call to Powell using FaceTime. I shared with him some buzz I’d heard, saying, “Hey buddy, we simply wanted to extend our heartfelt congratulations!
Powell appeared to jest about the rumor, saying, “My mother wouldn’t allow me to do something like that.” He also mentioned that the action-packed “Mission: Impossible” series is known as the most demanding job around.
Powell also pointed out, ‘That setup is incredibly dangerous,'” referring to Cruise’s habit of executing his own stunts for the action series, such as hanging from an airplane in flight, ascending the world’s tallest building, and leaping a motorcycle over a cliff before descending by parachute.
Powell erupted into hearty laughter, causing McAfee to declare, “He’s fibbing!” From there, they shifted the conversation towards college football.
Just before ending the call, Powell mentioned to McAfee that he was then on the set of Edgar Wright’s “The Running Man,” and excitedly said, “It’s going to be amazing!
The upcoming “Mission: Impossible” film, known as “The Final Reckoning,” is set to release on May 23, 2025. However, it’s important to note that it hasn’t been decided for certain if this will mark Tom Cruise’s final appearance as agent Ethan Hunt.
