Glen Powell Recalls Filming A Near-Nude Scene In Cold Weather For The Running Man, And It Doesn’t Sound Like It’s For The Faint Of Heart

I’m really looking forward to Edgar Wright’s upcoming movie, *The Running Man*, which is scheduled for release in 2025. Even the trailer shows Glen Powell in some incredibly dangerous and exciting scenes – including one where he rappels down a building wearing only a towel! Powell recently talked about filming that particular scene, and it sounds like it was quite a challenge.

The upcoming movie, based on Stephen King’s novel *The Running Man*, features Glen Powell as Ben Richards in a desperate fight for survival. The trailer showcases intense action, including Powell’s character jumping from a bridge, battling pilots mid-air, and performing a daring, nearly nude rappel. Powell recently told EW that he was initially enthusiastic about filming the scene, explaining…

I didn’t object to that scene – I actually thought it was hilarious and totally unexpected. We’ve all probably received a delivery while showering, but the idea of someone delivering guns along with it is just wild.

In this scene, Powell’s character is trying to shower at a public gym when people hunting him find him. This forces him to run, eventually leading to a desperate escape where he has to climb down from a roof using a rope.

I was so blown away by that sequence in *Top Gun: Maverick*! The actor explained it’s basically a condensed version of *Die Hard*, packed into just ten minutes – already intense, right? But he also said that when you factor in the fact that the characters are doing all of this with very little clothing, it takes the scene to a whole new level of extreme. It really adds to the tension!

Things became tricky, however. Although Glen Powell was happy with the scene and agreed to wear just a towel, he hadn’t thought about the weather conditions during filming for the new Stephen King movie. He later shared how the cold impacted everything, saying:

Looking back, I really wished I hadn’t said yes to that scene! I agreed to it ages ago, thinking it would be filmed during the summer, but we ended up shooting it in February… in Bulgaria, no less, and on a rooftop! Let me tell you, being half-naked in front of a whole crew is already a bit daunting, but doing it in freezing February weather in Bulgaria? It was… quite a spectacle. Honestly, it was a sight to behold, though I was the one doing the beholding of my own shivering! [Laughs]

Honestly, just hearing about that makes me shiver – and I’m bundled up right now! Imagining doing that scene in just a towel… wow, that must have been incredibly tough. But from what I’ve seen, it really paid off. Powell was right, it was a truly stunning visual.

The actor from *Twister* mentioned he asked Tom Cruise for advice on handling a physically demanding movie, and it’s clear why. He’s really pushing himself with all the action in *The Running Man*, and it seems to take the same dedication as a *Mission: Impossible* film.

Everything is coming together really well, and *The Running Man* looks like a thrilling, exciting movie! You can see it – and Glen Powell in an action scene with just a towel – in theaters on November 14th.
