A recent report suggests Glen Powell is Warner Bros.’ leading candidate to star in a remake of the classic 1950s sci-fi horror film, Them!
Gordon Douglas directed this classic monster movie, which came out in June 1954. Despite being a genre film, it proved to be quite successful in theaters.
Glen Powell rumored to be eyed for Them! reboot
Dread Central reports that Glen Powell is a potential lead for a remake of the classic 1954 monster movie, Them!
Deadline reported in January 2023 that a remake of the classic sci-fi horror film was being made. The article also shared that acclaimed composer Michael Giacchino would be directing the movie. He previously directed the Marvel Studios special, Werewolf by Night.
Giacchino is currently discussing a potential reboot of ‘Them!’ with the writers. He shared that the original film is personally meaningful to him, explaining that he’s always loved its core message about fear of what’s different and the things we don’t understand. He described it as being ‘about the other, the unknown, which one refuses or can’t understand.’
The classic film centers on a New Mexico nuclear test gone wrong, creating enormous, man-eating ants. Director Giacchino explained that his new version will explore themes of “immigration” by telling the story as a thrilling monster movie. Matt Reeves, the director of The Batman, signed on as a producer for the reboot, as reported by Collider in April 2025.
In addition to directing, Giacchino is expected to compose the music for the film. However, reports that Powell is the leading candidate to direct the reboot haven’t been officially confirmed yet.
