Colleen Hoover has become incredibly well-known as one of today’s top romance writers, gaining acclaim from novels such as “Ugly Love”, “Confess”, and “Slam”. However, it was in 2024 that her fame truly took off with the release of the film adaptation of her highly successful 2016 novel.
Despite facing a contentious production due to the legal dispute between director-producer Justin Baldoni, producer Blake Lively, and lead actress Blake Lively, the movie “It Ends With Us” proved to be a box office success. It garnered mixed responses from critics, but the public seemed to appreciate it, earning $349.7 million globally against a relatively small budget of $25 million. Future adaptations are planned, and recently, Universal’s adaptation of “Reminders of Him” has announced the addition of Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham to its cast.
As a film enthusiast, I eagerly read “Reminders of Him,” the captivating standalone novel penned by Coover, which graced bookshelves on January 18, 2022. In the same year, she continued to enthrall readers like me with the sequel to “It Ends With Us,” entitled “It Starts With Us,” released on October 18.
The story centers around Kenna Rowan, a young mother who, following prison time for a fateful accident, endeavors to reconnect with her four-year-old child and regain control of her life in her hometown. However, she encounters unexpected obstacles as those close to her daughter seem resolute on keeping her at bay.
In the upcoming drama I’m following, I learn that Scream Queen Maika Monroe takes the lead role. Also featured are Kenna Rowan and a couple of familiar faces: Tyriq Withers from “Tell Me Lies” and Rudy Pankow from “Outer Banks”. Interestingly, Graham will portray Grace Landry, the mother of Scotty, Kenna’s late boyfriend.
Universal Pictures will handle the distribution of “Reminders of Him,” a film directed by Vanessa Caswill. Jerry Bruckheimer and Lauren Levine co-wrote the script, and they are also producing along with their company Heartbones Entertainment, in collaboration with Gina Matthews. Filming started on April 16 in Calgary, Canada, and is scheduled to conclude on June 12.
Colleen Hoover Has Other Adaptations in the Works
Regarding the ongoing legal issues with “It Ends With Us,” scheduled for trial in March 2026, author Colleen Hoover has shifted her focus to new projects. Beyond “Reminders of Him,” she has several other adaptations in development. In a recent post on her Facebook group, details about these upcoming projects have emerged. As of now, Hoover is working on three adaptations: “Reminders of Him,” “Verity,” and “Regretting You,” each with major studios involved.
The movie titled “Regretting You” is set to be released by Paramount and Constantine. The star-studded cast includes Allison Williams (known for M3GAN), Mckenna Grace (from Ghostbusters), Dave Franco (famous for Now You See Me), Mason Thames (The Black Phone), Willa Fitzgerald (The Pulse), Scott Eastwood (upcoming Fast X), Clancy Brown (The Penguin), Sam Morelos, and Ethan Costanilla. The release date is scheduled for October 24th.
Verity hails from Amazon MGM Studios and features a star-studded cast. It stars alongside Josh Hartnett (known for Trap), Dakota Johnson (renowned for Fifty Shades of Grey), and Ismael Cruz Córdova (from The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power). Verity will hit theaters on May 15, 2026.
Reminders of Him premieres in theaters on Feb. 13, 2026.
