Character Descriptions
Bill Camp portrays J.P. Morgan, a globally recognized financier, who clashes with George Russell (Spector) regarding the direction of the railway sector’s development.
Merritt Wever portrays Monica O’Brien, Bertha Russell’s (Coon) long-lost sibling, who arrives at a pivotal moment for the family.
Leslie Uggams plays the role of Mrs. Ernestine Brown, a friend to Elizabeth Kirkland who belongs to the distinguished African-American social circle in Newport.
As a passionate film enthusiast, I find myself captivated by the portrayal of Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, brilliantly brought to life by Lisagay Hamilton. This remarkable Black suffragist serves as an inspiring figure for Peggy, skillfully played by Denée Benton. Despite the resistance from those around her, Peggy finds herself drawn into Harper’s noble cause, igniting a spark of change in the hearts and minds of many.
PAUL ALEXANDER NOLAN portrays Alfred Merrick, an attractive, affluent New York entrepreneur, embodying the essence of high society – grace, polish, and worldliness. The Russells extend an invitation for him to dine at their residence, intending to win him over with a potential business alliance.
Hattie Morahan portrays Lady Sarah Vere, who is the sister of the Duke of Buckingham (played by Ben Lamb). She openly expresses her dislike for the Russell family.
ANDREA MARTIN as Madame Dashkova, a medium who claims to be able to commune with the dead.
Jessica Frances Dukes portrays Athena Trumbo, Dorothy’s cherished first cousin and a member of an exclusive group of African-American residents in Newport, Rhode Island. She warmly welcomes Peggy (Benton) and enthusiastically encourages her writing endeavors.
