At first glance, Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper might seem like an unlikely pair due to their age difference, professions, and contrasting personalities. He’s older by 21 years, she’s a model while he’s an actor, and he’s often portrayed as intense compared to her more laid-back persona. However, it appears they share a unique bond: the power to persuade major corporations to imagine them as key figures in musical theater lore. In line with her April 2025 Vogue cover story, Hadid starred in a self-penned fan fiction that seemed to reimagine Hairspray as a production even more flamboyant, but with fewer characters portrayed as overweight. The music video, titled “Gigi Hadid Can’t Stop the Beat,” showcases Hadid lip-syncing to the iconic Hairspray song “You Can’t Stop the Beat,” joined later by Cole Escola, Laverne Cox, Alton Mason, and Marc Jacobs. If anything calls for the term “fantasy” these days, it’s certainly this production.

Gia Hadid shared with Vogue that she had a passion for musical theater from a young age. “I’ve always loved musical theater,” she said. At nine years old, she landed the role of Amber Von Tussle in Hairspray, as mentioned by Vogue. For this project, she teamed up with director Bardia Zeinali, who had previously worked with her on a 2018 Beetlejuice-themed shoot. “We’ve been planning this for a while,” Hadid said. “Finally, we got to make it happen, and we’re thrilled about it.” If you weren’t aware of Hadid’s enthusiasm for musical theater, you wouldn’t be the only one, but she frequently expresses her love for it throughout the cover story. At one point, the article even proposes that Jon M. Chu should consider casting her in one of the sequels to Wicked, despite the fact that there will only be one sequel to Wicked, and it has already been filmed.
It’s tough not to draw parallels between Bella Hadid’s surreal fashion film and Bradley Cooper’s upcoming Netflix production, “Maestro,” where he both directs and stars as Leonard Bernstein, the renowned composer from West Side Story. In this stylish video and in the larger-than-life portrayal of Oscar-villain Maestro, Hadid/Cooper delve into theater history in an over-the-top manner that suits them perfectly. Given their shared interest in theater, it seems fitting. According to “Page Six,” one of their first dates was to watch the Off Broadway play Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, and they also attended Alyssa Milano’s debut in Chicago last November, as reported by E!. Hadid revealed to Vogue that Cooper has inspired her to rediscover theater, stating he “has opened me up to going to the theater more, and that’s something that’s so nice to bring back into my life.” With Disney financing a Cooper-directed adaptation of Evita in the future, we can’t wait to see what’s next for this dynamic duo.
