Ghost of Yotei is cutting Tsushima’s biggest open-world flaw

Although Ghost of Yotei may be comparable to Ghost of Tsushima in scale and content, Sucker Punch is adopting a fresh strategy for exploration. Instead of multiple identical tasks, there will be a variety of results scattered throughout the map, reducing repetition.

Initially showcased at PlayStation’s July State of Play event, the game Ghost of Yotei left a significant impact due to its intense new battle system, enlarged weapon options, and a novel environment set in Hokkaido.

The studio has verified that the upcoming game will approximate the playtime of its prior version, with the main narrative estimated at approximately 25 hours. Completing all aspects is projected to take around 60 hours. Yet, unlike before, this adventure promises less redundancy and more engaging content for players to explore, providing a fresher experience overall.

Ghost of Yotei will feature less repetitive content

In a conversation about their latest project, Ghost of Yotei, creative directors Nate Fox and Jason Connell shared insights gleaned from their work on Tsushima, and discussed how these lessons are shaping their new endeavor.

Fox stated that although Tsushima’s open world was captivating and rich, some of its exploration tasks became repetitive. He mentioned this concern based on feedback from players, particularly highlighting the shrine-tracking fox minigames which, towards the end, felt more like a tedious task than an enjoyable activity.

As a curious explorer, I’m thrilled to share that in Ghost of Yotei, we’ve ensured that revisiting previously discovered secrets won’t feel like a repetitive grind. Instead, each new secret unearthed promises fresh experiences.

Rather than sticking to traditional methods, the team has reinvented the approach to revealing hidden elements and extra content for players. Each interaction will offer a unique twist, providing diverse results and experiences that aim to “exceed the player’s assumptions.

As a die-hard fan, I can hardly contain my excitement with the upcoming launch of Ghost of Yotei on October 2! The creators have promised a breathtakingly beautiful world akin to Tsushima, but this time, it’s teeming with unexpected delights around every corner. Can’t wait to uncover the mysteries that await!
