Ghost of Tsushima devs promise more releases beyond Yotei

As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the breathtaking world of Ghost of Tsushima, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming sequel, Ghost of Yotei! The prospect of exploring a new region of Japan during the Edo period with a fresh female protagonist named Atsu is nothing short of exhilarating.

According to the developers, Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yotei isn’t going to be the last installment in the Ghost series, as they clarified shortly after its announcement.

During Sony’s September event dedicated to PlayStation, we saw numerous thrilling reveals including game previews and trailers. For instance, Palworld was announced for the PS5, a Souls-like action-adventure game named Hell is Us was unveiled, and it was disclosed that there will be a free DLC for Astro Bot.

Instead, the most exciting revelation unfolded during the closing moments of the live stream, when we got our first glimpse of the anticipated sequel to Ghost of Tsushima. Unlike its predecessor, this time around it won’t star the original protagonist and is titled Ghost of Yotei.

An interview with the creative directors, Nate Fox and Jason Connell, who were featured in a New York Times article, revealed additional games apart from Ghost of Yotei.

The interview focused on the idea that this “sequel” to Ghost of Tsushima served as an expansion and creation of a fresh Sony franchise. But most notably, it stated that this IP would “include at least one movie and other spin-offs.”

Previously, a Ghost of Tsushima film was announced in 2021, with Chad Stahelski set to direct. However, aside from Ghost of Tsushima, only another game within the Ghost series – Yotei – has been unveiled thus far.

300 years following the initial game’s storyline, we find ourselves delving into the world of a fresh heroine named Atsu. This time around, our adventure unfolds on Mount Yotei, a distinct part of Japan that has never before been explored in the series. The setting is now the Edo period.

The article detailed how the narrative of the Ghost game immersed players in the enchanting romance and scenic grandeur of feudal Japan. Given the rich history and intrigue of this era, it’s not unexpected to learn that additional spin-offs have been announced.

Despite the common backlash triggered by Ghost of Yotei’s unveiling, this series won’t be halted. Its upcoming sequel is scheduled for launch in the year 2025.
