Among all the optional journeys you can take in Avowed, the longest and arguably most satisfying one is called Forged of the Star-Stuff. This adventure kicks off when you stumble upon a Fragment of Starmetal, and it concludes once you’ve navigated your way to the game’s final map. Gathering these elusive Starmetal Fragments can be challenging, but the anticipation of having to possibly wait for several hours to learn what this mysterious metal is capable of can be nerve-wracking.
Lucky for me, that quest I’ve been patiently waiting for in Avowed is truly worth it, offering the chance to grab a phenomenal weapon – the Starmetal. Now, the real question is: How do I track down those elusive Fragments of Starmetal and finish this quest?
Be aware this guide naturally contains some light spoilers.

What to do with Fragments of Starmetal in Avowed
Initially, when you discover a Piece of Starmetal, the “Forged of Star-Stuff” mission initiates on its own within Avowed. You can locate this quest in your journal, but the game provides no instructions or guidance about how to use the starmetal.
In Dawnshore, you might come across a piece of Starmetal from as early as dawn. However, locating it isn’t straightforward; you’ll need to explore every map in the game thoroughly before you can make use of it. Interacting with specific characters dispersed across Dawnshore, Emerald Stair, and Shatterscarp can provide information about the Starmetal. Blacksmiths are particularly knowledgeable about this rare metal if you decide to inquire with them.
As a gamer delving into the world of Avowed, I’ve come across this intriguing material known as the Starmetal. No matter who I ask about it, the response remains consistent: This enigmatic metal can only be forged by a smith within Solace Keep. Now, Solace Keep is the central city in the final map of Galawain’s Tusks, a map you can only access by advancing through the main storyline of Avowed. So, if fortune favors me and I stumble upon a Fragment of Starmetal in Dawnshore, I’ll have to navigate the events of Dawnshore, Emerald Stair, and Shatterscarp before I can even begin to utilize this fascinating artifact.
How to get into Solace Keep and complete Forged of Star-Stuff
Upon arriving at Galawain’s Tusks, your journey continues towards the north, leading you to Solace Keep. Though Solace Keep is fortified strongly and generally forbids entry to strangers, it’s essential that you converse with the guards stationed at the drawbridge prior to entering the city.
You have several strategies for convincing the guard to grant you entry. In my case, I managed to do so by mentioning that I had solved an earlier task in Galawain’s Tusks, which resulted in clear water flowing. Alternatively, you can use persuasive dialogue and specific background conversations to successfully gain access.
Upon entering Solace Keep, navigate through the cafeteria until you find a stairway. This will take you to the forge. Inside the forge, Foregmaster Dela is stationed in front of a statue. Speak with Dela and present him with your Starmetal from your inventory. He’ll become excited about the metal and propose crafting a special weapon for you using it. You can opt for either a Starmetal Sword or an Arquebus.
The one-of-a-kind blade is named Meteor Blade, while the unique firearm goes by Moonstrike. Both are exceptional tools, yet in my view, Moonstrike has a slight edge and is more beneficial. However, collecting additional Starmetal Shards could enable you to craft even more unique weapons with them from Dela. Additionally, you can improve your current weapon or enhance its capabilities further by providing more Starmetal fragments to Dela.
In the game Avowed, the mission titled “Forged of Star-Stuff” doesn’t conclude until you’ve discovered the whereabouts of all Starmetal fragments, but once you acquire a single Starmetal weapon, the main objective is essentially achieved.
Fragment of Starmetal locations in Avowed
To date, we’ve identified four distinct areas where fragments of Starmetal can be found, but it’s likely that many more remain undiscovered on the map. Below is a list of the four locations we have so far:
1. The Craghold Mines in the northern wilderness
2. The abandoned city of Zephyrion in the eastern desert
3. The floating islands of Elysium in the southern skies
4. The ancient ruins of Eldoria, hidden deep within a dense jungle.
- Galawain’s Tusks: Right beside the Ash Forest in a meteor pit where the Revenant bounty is located (northwest of Solace Keep)
- Dawnshore: At the Godless Altar directly south of the gate to Emerald Stair on the eastern side of the map
- Shatterscarp: In the Abandoned Mines directly across from Ruanga’s house (seen during the One Last Drink side quest)
- Emerald Stair: Right underneath the Damp Burrow text in the northern part of Emerald Stair on a rock (to the east of the Abandoned Farms and Rolling Crags)
As a gamer, here’s how I might put it: “I’ll keep adding more fragment locations to this guide as I find them. You only need one to finish the Forged of Star-Stuff quest in Avowed, but hey, who wouldn’t want a few extra powerful weapons, right? They won’t exactly make your life easier, but they’re definitely not going to hurt you!
