George Clooney said he’d be open to appearing on Noah Wyle’s new show, The Pitt, if asked. He told Entertainment Tonight he’d happily reunite with his former ER co-star “in a heartbeat.” At the premiere of Jay Kelly, Clooney expressed how proud he is of Wyle and the success of their past work together, saying it would be “fun” to see Wyle continue that legacy. However, Clooney hasn’t suggested a guest appearance on The Pitt because he wants to respect Wyle’s creative control over the show.
Adding George Clooney to the cast of The Pitt would likely fuel the ongoing legal battle over its similarities to ER. In August 2024, Michael Crichton’s widow, Sherri, sued, claiming The Pitt is essentially a reboot of ER without giving Crichton or his family any credit or payment. She says the original ER team attempted a revival, but Warner Bros. cancelled talks and instead moved forward with The Pitt. A judge sided with the lawsuit in February. Actor Anthony Wyle has expressed his disappointment with the legal fight, stating it damages the legacy of ER. He feels a collaboration was possible, and even when that wasn’t the case, the situation didn’t need to become hostile. On the 30th anniversary of ER, Wyle says he feels less celebratory than ever.
