Gene Hackman Death: Gas Company Finds Minor Leak But ‘No Significant Findings’

The New Mexico Gas Company reported “no major discoveries” in their examination of the residence shared by Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa, whose bodies were discovered a week ago.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office stated on Tuesday that it appears natural gas didn’t contribute to the fatalities, and they will send the gas company’s report to the Office of the Medical Examiner for review. The autopsy results are yet to be released.

Workers discovered a small amount of gas leaking from one stove burner, measuring 0.33% in the surrounding air, which is harmless as it’s not enough to be deadly, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Additionally, the gas company identified four safety concerns related to a water heater and three gas log lighters in fireplaces, but these problems were unrelated to gas leaks or carbon monoxide.

The team discovered a minor gas leak coming from one stove burner, with readings showing 0.33% gas concentration in the air, which is safe as it’s not enough to be lethal, as stated by the Sheriff’s Office. Furthermore, the gas company identified four instances of safety issues concerning a water heater and three gas log lighters in fireplaces; however, these problems were distinct from any gas leaks or carbon monoxide concerns.

Sheriff Adan Mendoza stated on Friday that the autopsy results showed no traces of carbon monoxide in Hackman and Arakawa’s systems, suggesting that this substance was not the reason for their demise.

On a chilly Wednesday afternoon, as I went about my routine maintenance tasks at this grand estate nestled beyond Santa Fe, I stumbled upon an unsettling discovery – three lifeless beings. In the bathroom, I found Arakawa, his form cold and still on the tiled floor. Nearby, in the mud room adjoining the kitchen, lay Hackman. A once-beloved canine companion was also discovered, tragically lifeless. Yet, two other dogs seemed to be thriving amidst the unexpected chaos, a stark reminder of life’s resilience amidst sorrow.

Investigators suspect that both Arakawa, aged 65, and Hackman, aged 95, suffered a fall, and it’s possible they did so near the bathroom where a pill bottle and some pills were discovered on the countertop.

Over the weekend, I found myself reflecting upon an intriguing revelation that emerged during a press briefing on Friday. As a movie buff, I’m always drawn to mysteries, and this one involves the data from Jim Hackman’s pacemaker. The last recorded event, as he shared, occurred on February 17 – nine days before the discovery of our team.

During a house search, investigators found two mobile phones, some medications, and a calendar. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any security footage available. Initially, the Sheriff’s Office expressed that they didn’t suspect any suspicious activities, but due to the circumstances being considered “suspicious” enough, they decided to conduct a more thorough probe.
