Michele Fazekas explains how Gen V Season 2 changed after Chance Perdomo’s Death
Michele Fazekas, the showrunner for Gen V, recently shared that the writing team had already mapped out the first five episodes of Andre’s storyline before actor Derek Perdomo passed away.
Fazekas explained they never intended to replace the actor who sadly passed away in March 2024. She said the decision was made early on, and that both the studio, the network, and everyone involved agreed a recast wasn’t an option. (according to Deadline)
Fazekas explained that they had written five episodes focusing on Andre’s storyline. However, after the actor who played Chance passed away, all of that work became unusable. She admitted it felt strange to mourn a fictional character, but they genuinely did. They discussed how it’s natural to feel sadness over losing a character you’ve come to care for, especially when you admire the actor who brought them to life.
She also explained that the team working on Gen V wanted to pay tribute to Perdomo, as his passing was truly devastating and difficult to comprehend.
In a July interview with EW, Fazekas explained that the character appears throughout the whole season. He described the storyline as being, in many ways, centered around both Andre and Chance, and expressed his pride in that focus.
