Gears of War: Reloaded releases this summer on PlayStation 5

Today, it’s been announced through Xbox Wire that “Gears of War: Reloaded” is set to release in August. Notably, this updated version of the original Gears of War game will be accessible on various platforms, including the PlayStation 5. This represents a significant shift as the series, which has previously been exclusive to Xbox, is now making its debut on a competing platform. A piece of positive news for those who own the digital edition of “Gears of War: Ultimate Edition” is that they will receive a complimentary upgrade. Additionally, the new remastered game will be playable on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass from launch day.

Gears of War: Reloaded will release this August on Xbox, Steam, and PlayStation 5

To date, we haven’t been treated to a trailer or any video footage for the upcoming game titled “Gears of War: Reloaded”. Instead, screenshots have been shared in an Xbox Wire post. Some of these images demonstrate the improved visuals by displaying three different stages – the original version, the Ultimate Edition, and finally, Reloaded. This is intriguing given that Xbox has recently increased console prices and suggested that Xbox games will soon retail for $80. However, Gears of War: Reloaded will only set you back $39.99. This announcement comes before the expected release of another game in the series, Gears of War: E-Day, which is slated for next year. It’s possible that this could be a prequel to the storyline presented in Reloaded. Could this be a sign that E-Day might also make its debut on the PlayStation platform?

The “Gears of War: Reloaded” game, as reported on Xbox Wire, is designed for cooperative play, whether you’re playing together in split-screen mode or online. The Campaign offers two-player co-op, and the Versus Multiplayer can accommodate up to 8 players. This version will also allow cross-play with PlayStation platforms, meaning you and your friends can team up regardless of where you play, without needing a Microsoft account. However, having a Microsoft account does provide “full cross-platform functionality,” including the ability to continue your progress across different platforms. In other words, this game is now available on PlayStation and will allow players from both consoles to play together seamlessly.

Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios has been showing remarkable success, climbing up the ranks as a top third-party publisher. It recently took the lead on the PlayStation store due to the late-month launch of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and the anticipation surrounding pre-orders for Doom: The Dark Ages. Despite some Xbox enthusiasts expressing dissatisfaction with the direction of exclusives and hardware, it’s already demonstrating success for the console manufacturer.

In my opinion, it seems like this hint suggests that Gears of War: E-Day will be making its way to the PlayStation 5, even if not immediately on launch day. The reasoning behind this is that the approach has been working well for Xbox, and releasing an introduction to the series would only serve to prepare PlayStation fans for what’s to come next. Many PlayStation users may not have played the game before, so this could be a great opportunity for them to get acquainted with it.

On August 26th, 2025, Gears of War: Reloaded is set to release, making its debut on Xbox Series X/S, Steam for PC, and the Xbox Store as well as PlayStation 5. Additionally, it will be accessible from day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
