The device that caused damage to numerous Nintendo Switch 2 consoles during their release is currently up for sale at GameStop, with the earnings donated to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
The long-awaited sequel to Nintendo’s popular hybrid console, the Nintendo Switch 2, was unveiled on June 5th. Boasting enhanced graphics, extended battery life, and a fresh collection of exclusive games, the Switch 2 rapidly emerged as one of the most sought-after gaming items of the year, with pre-orders swiftly depleting at major retailers prior to its release.
In the midst of preparations for the launch of the Switch 2, a major retailer involved, namely GameStop, encountered an unanticipated wave of criticism as rumors spread about some customers receiving Nintendo Switches with staple imprints on their screens.
GameStop puts viral stapler up for auction
The unique gaming artifact found its way onto eBay after the viral event, and at this moment, the bidding has surpassed $12,000.
It turned out that GameStop employees unintentionally caused scratches and dents on Nintendo Switch 2 consoles while using a stapler to attach tags to shipping boxes. This incident left some excited customers disappointed upon discovering aesthetic damages when they opened their eagerly anticipated devices.
As per the eBay post, this specific stapler was previously employed at a GameStop store in New York City before being put out of service. The listing playfully labels it as a “moderately used, now notorious office gadget.” Noteworthy is that all proceeds from the winning bid will be donated to children’s hospitals throughout North America.

In gaming communities, pictures of faulty Nintendo Switch 2 consoles started circulating rapidly, due to their damaged condition. Later on, GameStop acknowledged the root cause of the problem, stating that during the packing process, staplers were mistakenly used to affix paperwork, resulting in the damage observed.
As a passionate gamer, I’ve been blown away by the buzz surrounding this charity auction. Already, there have been countless bids flying around, and the current bid is way beyond what any ordinary stapler might be worth. This just goes to show how much us fans are ready to dig deep for something unique from our cherished gaming history, all in the name of a worthy cause.
