In a fresh advertisement for the Switch 2 restock, GameStop playfully mocks its own past mistake during the initial launch, using humor to reference the infamous blunder from that day.
On June 5, the long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2 hit the market, sparking a frenzy among gamers who either purchased or preordered it to guarantee ownership. However, retailers like GameStop couldn’t keep up with demand, leading to a shortage of Switch 2 consoles, and creating quite the commotion on its launch day.
When the Switch 2 was released, eager gamers flocked to stores to purchase their new console, but unfortunate customers from GameStop in New York experienced significant disappointment upon finding that their consoles had staple marks on the screen. The damage occurred when the store affixed the receipt to the box with staples. A large number of customers were affected, leading to a global news story.
GameStop roast themselves over Switch 2 staple blunder
Initially, there was concern among many that it might take up to three months for another stock of the stapleless Switch 2 to become available. However, this isn’t accurate. In fact, just about two weeks following its initial launch, GameStop has unveiled that they’ve already restocked their supply of the Switch 2.
Instead of their initial approach, they chose to jest about their past mistake when announcing this new stock. In their advertisement, they display the Switch 2, but include a humorous remark: “Staples not included. Grab a Switch 2 restock at GameStop today,” accompanied by an image of a stapler with the words “do not use on box.
This advertisement garnered much delight among Switch 2 enthusiasts, who labeled it as “marketing brilliance” and expressed that it had a nostalgic feel reminiscent of ads from the 90s, with many exclaiming, “That’s an excellent ad indeed!
Previously, GameStop has already dealt with this problem. On June 5th, following the widespread incident, GameStop clarified that they had addressed a specific case of staples causing damage to Switch 2 screens, limited to one store only. They have provided replacements and confiscated the staplers as a precautionary measure. To lighten the mood, they even added a humorous remark in their post.
It’s fortunate that the problem was limited to a single store, which means most fans didn’t have to deal with the infamous red stapler. Moreover, it’s evident that those who purchase Nintendo Switch 2 restocks can relax, as GameStop has no plans to repeat this issue in the future.
