GameCube NSO collection announced during Nintendo Switch 2 Direct

Over the past few months, there have been several significant upgrades to the game collections available with a Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) subscription that many players were eagerly anticipating. One intriguing speculation suggested that the “C” button could enable users to stream their gameplay onto the TV, effectively transforming the handheld device and the television into two screens similar to the Nintendo DS. However, this prediction did not come true as it was revealed that the “C” button functions as the Game Chat button instead. A more straightforward theory, which ultimately proved correct, was that Nintendo would introduce a Nintendo GameCube classic collection. This compilation is set to launch on June 5th, coinciding with the release of the new console.

Nintendo announces the launch of the GameCube collection for NSO subscribers

To play this assortment of vintage Nintendo GameCube games, it’s important to note that access is limited. Firstly, users must possess a Nintendo Switch Online membership. However, that’s not all; they will also need to upgrade to the Expansion Pack tier. This level offers additional perks such as free DLC for popular titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, along with other collections like the GameBoy Advance and Nintendo 64 libraries.

As a thrilled gamer, I eagerly watched the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct trailer and was blown away by the lineup of games launching alongside the console, not to mention a tantalizing peek at what’s yet to come in the future. The first game unveiled was none other than The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, a timeless classic with its distinctive cartoon-like style. Although it had an HD port on the Wii U, this is the very first time it sets sail on the Nintendo Switch!

The Soul Calibur 2 game will also be part of the collection, notable for its addition of Link as a playable character. Additionally, F-Zero GX, a racing game featuring Captain Falcon from Super Smash Bros., will be included. Players can race with up to four players in both online and local co-op modes. When the Switch 2 launches in June, not all games are confirmed to be part of the collection initially. However, we got a sneak peek at some additional games that will join later on, such as Super Mario Sunshine, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, Super Mario Strikers, and Luigi’s Mansion, just to name a few. As of now, there’s no news about the inclusion of Super Smash Bros. Melee in the collection.

In addition to this latest announcement, Nintendo revealed a new wireless GameCube controller compatible with the upcoming console. This controller will feature the Game Chat button, along with what seems to be an integrated microphone or audio jack. The controller is set to debut on the My Nintendo Store on June 5th, coinciding with the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. However, please note that it will only be accessible for Nintendo Switch Online members.
