According to recent reports, Sophie Turner, famously known for her role in Game of Thrones, might be discussing potential roles with Prime Video for their forthcoming Tomb Raider series, where she could portray the character Lara Croft.
As of now, it hasn’t been officially confirmed that Turner will audition for the role of Lara Croft in the series from Phoebe Waller-Bridge, despite earlier reports suggesting this possibility. Similarly, there have been rumors about Lucy Boynton being the favorite to play Lara Croft, following her role in Bohemian Rhapsody.
Over time, Angelina Jolie, a winner of the prestigious Oscar, starred as Lara Croft in various Tomb Raider films. In contrast, Alicia Vikander, another Academy Award-winning actress, took on the role of Lara Croft in the 2018 version of Tomb Raider.
The upcoming Tomb Raider TV show on Amazon Prime Video will be produced separately from the next Tomb Raider game developed by Crystal Dynamics, which Amazon, as the owner of Prime Video, is also publishing. It’s important to note that this new game doesn’t have any connection with the TV series.
Waller-Bridge primarily gained recognition for developing the television show ‘Fleabag’ and penning and producing the hit series ‘Killing Eve.’ She also appeared as Helena in the film ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,’ and was enlisted to refine the screenplay for the James Bond film ‘No Time to Die.’
Previously, Waller-Bridge expressed that she had many opportunities to include in her work, given her past connections with Indiana Jones and James Bond characters. Essentially, Lara Croft’s character was derived from these two iconic figures, so there were numerous elements available for incorporation. It felt like a fitting culmination of her personal journey within the realm of such action-packed franchises.
2018’s Tomb Raider film brought in approximately $275 million globally, placing it among the top-earning video game adaptations ever made. Alicia Vikander was set to reprise her role for a sequel, but the picture became unclear when Amazon took over MGM.
As you anticipate the return of the Tomb Raider series, an animated adaptation titled “The Legend of Lara Croft” debuted on Netflix in October, with Hayley Atwell lending her voice to the character of Lara Croft.
