Game dev responds after xQc and summit1g randomly banned on Steam

As a seasoned gamer with a touch of gray in my headphones, I’ve seen it all – from glitches to bans, and everything in between. But being banned from a game without any clear reason or prior warning? That’s a new one, even for me!

Following an unexpected ban for internet personalities xQc and summit1g on Steam’s Marauders game, the game creators subsequently addressed the situation.

On the 21st of October, Mondays specifically, while streaming live, xQc spotted a game ban alert pop up on his Steam account.

Perplexed, xQc navigated to the link only to discover that the creators of Marauders, a recently launched indie shooter with looting elements in Early Access this year, had imposed a ban on him.

“Huh? Wait, what? By Marauders?” he said.

The news about the bans swiftly spread like wildfire on social media platforms, making it clear that both individuals, including him and summit1g, had been prohibited from playing the game.

Yet, not much time had passed before the developers of Marauders spoke up on Reddit about this matter.

Hi Everyone! It seems some well-known Content Creators who have previously played our game have been unexpectedly banned following extended periods of inactivity. To make things clearer, we want to assure you that this was not a deliberate action from us. The coincidence of multiple Content Creators being affected has us suspecting it’s not merely a coincidence. We are currently investigating the matter to determine the cause and rectify the situation.

It seems that the bans aren’t due to any in-game activities but rather because of past associations with Marauders. Similar incidents are happening in other games as well. I apologize for any trouble this may have caused you.

Additionally, the developer mentioned that they’ve communicated with several impacted content creators and found no trace of any related issues in their system regarding the suspensions.

It’s possible that the issue might be coming from their end (Valve). We’re collaborating with them to find a solution. In the meantime, please monitor your accounts carefully.

Despite it seemingly not being his fault that xQc received a Marauders game ban, it’s worth noting that The Juicer has had run-ins with bans on other games before. In July, for instance, he was temporarily muted in Valorant following an offensive remark towards one of his teammates, using the “r-word.
