Game-breaking EA FC 25 glitch lets you block set pieces before they’re taken

As a seasoned FIFA 25 player with countless hours under my belt, I’ve seen it all – from the beautiful goals to the frustrating bugs. But this latest glitch discovered by Makatore has taken the cake! It’s like having a secret superpower, able to block set pieces and close down opponents in situations that should be impossible.

In the game Electronic Arts Football (EA FC) 25, a novel issue has been uncovered, allowing players an unfair advantage by intercepting and obstructing shots during free kicks, corners, goal-kicks, and even opening kick-offs. This action is supposed to be impractical under normal gameplay conditions.

Despite developers regularly issuing updates to rectify some launch issues with FC 25, such as slow menu responses, there are persisting problems. Recently, a significant bug was uncovered that enables players to snatch the ball in instances where it’s typically shielded.

During a set-piece situation, such as a corner or free kick, there’s an unseen barrier that keeps the opposing team from encroaching too far and violating the rules. This barrier is positioned approximately 10 yards away from the ball for a corner or free kick, but it’s located at the edge of the penalty box when it comes to a goal kick.

Fans have found a trick to circumvent this issue. By pressing and holding the R1/RB button on your controller slightly before the character you’re controlling would ordinarily meet the unseen wall, they can keep moving into areas that they should not be able to access physically.

The trick that Makatore, a Twitch streamer, uncovered has since become something I’ve been able to execute effectively in the game, serving to obstruct set pieces and prevent goals from keeper kick-offs. This technique can be employed both in online and offline games, as I have successfully applied it during Kick-Off matches and Division Rivals play.

When you’ve got R1/RB in hand and have surpassed the given limit, your player can no longer alter its direction, requiring some skill to execute a successful block. Moreover, letting go of the button will cause them to quickly retreat to an appropriate distance.

Interestingly, when you try to intercept the ball or make a tackle, the referee doesn’t call a foul as they would in real situations. This is because, ideally, players shouldn’t be able to get that close in the game, and there are no penalties for those who do so.

To maximize the opportunity presented by the bug, it’s crucial to deploy your fastest player. If they successfully block the ball during a free kick or corner, they’ll find themselves in an ideal position to initiate a swift counterattack.

Multiple athletes have mentioned that their matches in Division Rivals have been affected by this bug, which might cause problems in intense FUT Champs contests as well. However, developers haven’t spoken about it yet, but expect a solution to be rolled out swiftly rather than later.
