Furysu has unveiled the role-playing game titled “Varlet,” which is being produced by Aquria. This school life RPG will be globally available starting August 28 on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and personal computers via Steam and Epic platforms.
In the town of Varlet, Kousei Academy now connects to a virtual reality system called Johari. This link has led to the emergence of Glitch worlds alongside malevolent creatures known as Desire monsters. The game offers a Triad Stat system, allowing players to decide between stats that lean towards ‘morality, empathy, and selflessness’ (Light Triad) or those that favor ‘manipulation, lack of empathy, and self-importance’ (Dark Triad).

The intriguing narrative of “Varlet” is built upon Furuyu’s expertise in creating immersive story-driven games. Players will be invited to delve into the complexity of their own identity as they maneuver through the potentially treacherous corridors of a high school, confronting the duality within themselves.
Step into the innovative environment of Kousei Academy, home to the groundbreaking cross-reality, virtual reality network called “Johari”. This versatile platform serves multiple purposes, from providing essential information and facilitating transactions to functioning as a social networking and messaging tool. The introduction of Johari has sparked a significant rise in students’ craving for acceptance and recognition among their peers. However, an unsettling rumor starts spreading about users mysteriously vanishing into otherworldly “Glitches” if this thirst for approval escalates excessively. What makes this even more chilling is the tale of monstrous creatures lurking within these Glitches, allegedly taking the place of the vanished users in the real world, leaving everyone oblivious to their disappearance.
In this scenario, the main character uncovers that the city’s folktale is indeed authentic, as certain pupils have been transformed into monsters. Consequently, they are compelled to act. As part of the Student Support Services (SSS), a group tasked with resolving the academy’s issues, players need to support their peers, build connections, and combat to safeguard the school from an approaching catastrophe. Yet, maintaining these relationships isn’t without complications – developing close ties with numerous individuals might result in unforeseen outcomes.
The heart of Varlet’s gameplay revolves around its unique Triad Stats system, which molds character development according to the player’s decisions. This system consists of six key attributes, categorized into Light and Dark Triad qualities. These traits influence dialogue options and passive combat abilities.
The Light Triad stats underscore moral values, empathy, and selflessness, whereas the Dark Triad emphasizes cunning, cold-heartedness, and arrogance. As players progress, they will reveal their true character – either as a noble leader who inspires and strengthens allies in combat or as a merciless ruler who harnesses immense power, even at a personal expense.
