Frustration Grows Over Shemar Moore’s Return in Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 4!

As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, I find myself reflecting on the conclusion of “Criminal Minds: Evolution” during the 2025 TV schedule, but my spirits are lifted knowing that it’s been renewed for Season 4 – marking its 19th season overall. This means there’s plenty more BAU action and perhaps even more esteemed guest stars in our future, given Matthew Gray Gubler’s brief appearance during Season 3. However, showrunner Erica Messer has shared a teasing update about potential returning guest stars that has me on the edge of my seat, and I can’t help but feel it’s about Shemar Moore.

For 11 consecutive seasons, Shemar Moore portrayed Derek Morgan on “Criminal Minds.” He later made guest appearances in Seasons 12 and 13. Since then, he hasn’t reprised his role due to his dedication to another series, “S.W.A.T.” Even though “S.W.A.T.” was canceled, Moore has been busy with its spinoff, “S.W.A.T. Exiles,” indicating a packed schedule lately. Recently, when speaking to TV Insider, Moore shared insights about incorporating guest stars, and I can appreciate her perspective on the difficulties involved in this process.

In February of this year, we started brainstorming for Season 19, and as of now, we’re actively filming. However, when it comes to planning our season, we can’t rely on potential guest stars because they may not be available six months down the line or so. As a result, we don’t have any specific plans at the moment, but things might change unexpectedly.

Erica Messer didn’t specifically mention names, possibly due to ongoing attempts to recruit some individuals. It’s plausible that Moore could be among the prospective guest stars she hinted at.

More on Criminal Minds

Following Tara’s intense ordeal on Criminal Minds: Evolution, I find myself captivated by Aisha Tyler’s insights into the future of her character. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us next!

The TV series S.W.A.T. was called off for a third time in March, which appeared to signal the end of the series. However, Shemar Moore, who plays Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, continued to express his wish to continue in this role. Eventually, discussions between Moore and Sony TV about a spinoff started. It seems that Moore’s schedule aligns with what Messer mentioned. Although I’m pleased that the actor will create more for the franchise, I can’t help but long for him to return as Morgan on Evolution.

Arranging schedules, whether for television or film projects, can be quite challenging due to Erica Messer’s explanation. Everything needs to fit perfectly for a star to participate in a particular project. Therefore, when someone is in high demand, it becomes extremely difficult to secure them for a specific job. For instance, it took several seasons before the show Evolution managed to get Matthew Gray Gubler, who had a brief role as Spencer Reid. It can be quite frustrating, but that’s how the industry operates.

Paramount Plus offers access to the popular Criminal Minds series, available in either an Essential plan or an ad-free version. Messer’s remark about guest stars could also shed light on why some well-known ex-cast members like Thomas Gibson and Daniel Henney haven’t made a reappearance yet. Since Criminal Minds: Evolution is coming back for another season, it remains uncertain if viewers will get to see other recognizable characters returning to the team.

I’m hopeful that some folks will join us next season, but I won’t get my hopes up too high when it comes to Shemar Moore. In the meantime, fans can enjoy previous seasons of Criminal Minds: Evolution and its original series by subscribing to Paramount+.
