Frostpunk 2 On Consoles Will Be A Day-One Game Pass Release

11-bit Studios has revealed that Frostpunk 2, its upcoming strategy game, is set to launch on consoles on September 18th. Two distinct physical editions of the game will be available. Additionally, Frostpunk 2 will be accessible from day one on the console version of Xbox Game Pass.

The game is currently available on PC Game Pass, and it will also be accessible on consoles when it officially launches. Regarding the physical copies, there are two distinct editions: one is called the Icebreaker Edition, which encompasses the game itself, a digital novella, a digital artbook, and a pop-up diorama of New London from the game. The Whiteout Edition, on the other hand, offers all the contents of the Icebreaker version plus three upcoming DLCs for Frostpunk 2, along with additional physical items such as a keychain, New London postcards, stickers, and a faction patch.

In a statement for the press, Igor Skibinski from 11 bit studios mentioned that their aim for the console adaptation of the post-apocalyptic strategy game was to ensure smooth control experience. Following the console release, an update will be rolled out for the PC version, allowing PC users playing with a controller to access the console version’s user interface.

Skibinski stated, “Our goal is to demonstrate that intricate strategy games can provide an instinctive and rewarding experience on gaming consoles once more.

When Frostpunk 2 eventually comes out on consoles (having been initially released for PC in September 2024), it will join the console adaptation of the original Frostpunk, which is already accessible via Game Pass. This survival-centric city-building series requires players to make tough decisions to preserve civilization during an unending winter, all while juggling basic survival necessities like food and warmth, as well as dealing with societal strife.

Earlier this year, 11 bit studios revealed their plan to rebuild the initial Frostpunk using Unreal Engine 5, now known as Frostpunk 1886. This name is a nod to a significant year in the game’s storyline. Unlike a simple visual upgrade, Frostpunk 1886 will introduce fresh content, gameplay mechanics, and laws, all while offering official mod support – a feature that was previously unattainable due to constraints within the original game’s engine.

In regards to Frostpunk 2, 11 bit studios have confirmed they’ll keep enhancing it through fresh updates and additional content, with development on both Frostpunk 2 and Frostpunk 1886 progressing simultaneously. Following a roadmap for Frostpunk 2, the game is set to receive several substantial free expansions and paid DLCs, with some due in 2025, followed by more in 2026.

In recent updates regarding Game Pass, Xbox plans to add eight new titles to its library soon, but will also be taking out three games as of July 31st, with Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess being one of them.
