If you guessed correctly that FromSoftware was developing a new intellectual property specifically for the rumored Nintendo Switch 2 console, then your foresight must have been remarkable! This unexpected reveal during today’s Direct presentation took everyone by surprise, even with Hollow Knight: Silksong making a quick appearance. FromSoftware unveiled The Duskbloods, a game that seems to fit in their signature dark fantasy genre, starring a vampire protagonist.
FromSoftware announces The Duskbloods, a multiplayer Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive
Prior to today, the concept that any FromSoftware game felt like a dream has been my belief. However, not only did the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct confirm that Elden Ring would be playable on the upcoming console, but it also teased an entirely new, exclusive game from the beloved studio. The brief trailer marked the finale of the hour-long presentation.
The trailer commences with an ominous speech, followed by a woman clutching a motionless man’s hand in a chair, leaving an unusual imprint. At first glance, this trailer seemed similar to either Castlevania or Resident Evil. However, the appearance of the FromSoftware name during the opening scene altered that perception. It appears that The Duskbloods will blend FromSoftware’s dark fantasy atmosphere with a steam punk flair. At one point, a train passes by and at least one character seems to wield some type of firearm.
Shadows Die Twice.
On FromSoftware’s site, there was some valuable information about a new game called The Duskbloods. It is described as a multiplayer action game where up to eight players engage in PvPvE combat against each other and various enemies. This game shares similarities with Elden Ring: Nightreign, being one of FromSoftware’s more recent projects. In this game, the player takes on the role of a member of the “blood family of the twilight,” who has gained supernatural abilities through special blood. The player then embarks on a fierce battle to obtain “the blood of the beginning.” This information was provided in Japanese and has been translated for easier understanding.
Although gamers have been anticipating a fresh take on Bloodborne as either a remake or sequel, this new game shares the term “blood” in its title. One character seems to exhibit vampiric characteristics, such as biting an enemy’s neck in the trailer, which may explain how they were resurrected during the opening scene. Furthermore, it appears that there could be multiple playable characters within this game, possibly a group related to the name mentioned in the title. One character seems to be a vampire, another is a young woman with magical abilities, and yet another dons an absurd suit of armor and soars across the world.
In essence, we’ll need to be patient to gather more information about ‘The Duskbloods’, however, if this isn’t a showcase of Nintendo’s influence with their upcoming console, I can’t think of what else could be. Remarkably, ‘The Duskbloods’ is set for release in 2026, but enthusiasts won’t have to wait that long for the Nintendo Switch 2, which is scheduled to debut on June 5th.
