From Software’s Switch 2 Exclusive Was Originally Pitched For The Original Switch

In an unexpected twist from the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct this week, I found myself captivated by The Duskbloods, an intriguing eight-player PvPvE endeavor crafted by the masterminds behind Elden Ring and Bloodborne – From Software. However, a recent interview on the official Nintendo website sheds light on a tale that deviates from what some might have initially presumed.

Nintendo shared an interview with Hidetaka Miyazaki, director of From Software, discussing The Duskbloods game. In the first part of this conversation, Miyazaki reveals that the collaboration between From Software and Nintendo for an exclusive project started even before the specifications of Switch 2 were finalized, and it was initially designed to work on the original Nintendo Switch.

Initially, a compact team was developing it as a game for the Nintendo Switch, Miyazaki explained in an interview. But as the project began to crystallize, Nintendo brought up the subject of Switch 2, causing us to adjust our development strategy to accommodate this potential new hardware.

Miyazaki additionally notes that the stronger online features of Switch 2 enabled his team to maintain the original concept as authentically as feasible. This part of the interview further discusses the game’s environment, the characters players will encounter, and delves deeper into what The Duskbloods is truly about.

The new Nintendo Switch (version 2) hits the shelves on June 5, priced at $449. Pre-orders will start from April 9 at selected stores. On the other hand, the release date for the game “Duskbloods” is yet to be confirmed, but it’s expected in 2026.
