From Software Is Not Abandoning Single-Player Games, Studio Boss Says

Currently, FromSoftware is working on two upcoming games, with one of them slated for release soon, and both primarily centered around a multiplayer foundation. “Elden Ring: Nightreign” features cooperative gameplay in a souls-like setting, while “The Duskbloods,” exclusive to Switch 2, emphasizes PvPvE playstyle. This has sparked speculation among FromSoftware fans that the studio may delve deeper into multiplayer development in the future. However, FromSoftware’s head and “The Duskbloods” director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, assures that the company is not planning to exclusively focus on online multiplayer games.

In the same interview, Miyazaki clarified that while Elden Ring is indeed an online multiplayer game at its heart, it doesn’t signal a change in direction for the company towards exclusively multiplayer titles. Furthermore, he confirmed the development of a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Elden Ring. Despite this, the team continues to create and nurture single-player focused games that align with their traditional style.

Miyazaki further elaborated on The Duskbloods, sharing insights into its environment, characters, and underlying themes. He revealed that players will guide a band of characters called the Bloodsworn, who are analogous to vampires. This action-adventure game unfolds in the twilight of human civilization, focusing on the Bloodsworn’s pursuit of something called First Blood. Originally intended for the Switch console, The Duskbloods is set to release for the Switch 2 in the year 2026.

For those who own only PC, PlayStation, or Xbox consoles, they won’t be able to play Elden Ring: Nightreign unless they acquire a Switch 2 console. However, they can eagerly anticipate the release of Elden Ring: Nightreign on May 30. According to Tamoor Hussain in TopMob’s Elden Ring Nightreign preview, the game appears to be characteristic of From Software, and his interest in it has grown since spending time with it.
