Free Vampire Survivors Update Is Out Now, Adds Several SaGa Frontier Characters

The developer of Vampire Survivors, Poncle, has unveiled the upcoming major – and free – update for the game on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices. During the Triple-I Initiative stream, they showcased the Emerald Diorama, which is inspired by Square Enix’s fantasy RPG franchise SaGa. Now, you can download it!

The recent update for Vampire Survivors introduces an abundance of fresh content, incorporating 12 new characters and skins, multiple new weapons, and the Glimmer gameplay feature. This innovative system offers a chance to instantly master unique techniques when wielding certain weapons, enabling players to summon swords, cast spells, and launch projectiles.

For the new characters, several SaGa protagonists will join the game roster. These include:

  • Tsunanori Mido — A fate-forged master of Kugutsu puppets
  • Ameya Aisling — An undercover witch searching for her lost magic (and cats)
  • Bonnie & Formina — A duo of daring detectives who fight side-by-side with fists and firearms
  • Diva No.5 — A songstress mech forsaken for singing a forbidden melody, travelling between different worlds–and robotic bodies–in search of her heart

Poncle mentions that you might encounter a teacher of heroic figures, a reawakened Emperor, and a monarch with a dark appetite for bloodshed too. Notably, this update introduces something akin to a “party” for the SaGa group, where each character has their own health bar. When a character’s health reaches a critical level, they’ll trigger their “Showstopper” ability. This temporary power-up boosts their Strength, Luck, and Cool Down stats.

The events will take place on a fresh stage inspired by the SaGa series, and you can enjoy various reworked versions of iconic Saga tunes as you battle through hordes of monsters.

Cross-saving functionality is planned for Vampire Survivors, except on PlayStation systems, due to a legal predicament. Poncle mentioned privacy concerns as the primary reason behind this, and the developers have expressed that it’s unlikely to appear on PS4 and PS5 at the moment, suggesting a small chance for now.
