Free-To-Play Game Of Thrones RPG Launches On Steam Soon, But You’ll Have To Pay

For mobile players, the upcoming action-RPG Game of Thrones: Kingsroad might be available for free upon release. However, if you’re eager to start playing on Steam right away, there will be a cost associated with it.

Netmarble, the developer behind the game set within the universe of the renowned HBO series, plans to make the game available for early playtesting on Steam starting March 26. Unlike many games in early access that could remain in this phase for months or years, Netmarble anticipates Game of Thrones: Kingsroad to only spend a “minimum of four weeks” in this stage before transitioning to free-to-play status.

During the preliminary phase, not every part of the game will be accessible, but players can delve into the Northern parts of Westeros, meet characters such as Jon Snow, tour multiple significant cities, undertake numerous optional missions, join cooperative dungeons, and progress through 50 chapters of the main narrative. Upon its official, free-to-play debut, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will offer more explorable regions, additional cooperative dungeons, and further content. The developers at Netmarble have confirmed that more areas and challenges will be added after the launch.

To enjoy early access to the game, players can buy one of the Founder’s Packs available. The most affordable one costs $25 and includes a “Northern” cosmetic outfit, a Jon Snow emoji pack, and 350 units of the game’s Iron Mark currency. For $50, players receive all that plus the premium battle pass, additional outfits, horse mounts, a founder’s title, and extra currencies. The $90 version offers everything mentioned, as well as a Direwolf mount, mount equipment, an upgraded premium battle pass, and even more currency.

After Game of Thrones: Kingsroad exits Steam’s early access phase and becomes available on mobile devices as well, players can enjoy seamless cross-platform gameplay and progression, meaning your saved data and achievements will be consistent regardless of the device you’re using.

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad places you in the role of a personalized heir for a minor Northern lord, where you’ll walk through the dangerous political landscape of Westeros to rebuild your house’s status. You have three distinct classes (Sellsword, Knight, and Assassin) to pick from, engaging in combat that demands precision in dodging and parrying to thwart enemy attacks. Collaborate with others to conquer ‘mythical creatures of lore’ in the game’s cooperative dungeon mode – a necessity if you wish to gather materials for crafting the most top-tier equipment available.

Netmarble’s Game of Thrones game isn’t the first action-RPG set in Westeros, but it might not be the last. Warner Bros. Games, in a recent announcement about closing down Monolith and two other studios, mentioned that they plan to concentrate on four popular franchises for future projects, one of them being Game of Thrones.
