A free, fan-made real-time strategy game called Combined Arms has been released. It combines the worlds of both Command & Conquer series—Tiberium and Red Alert—into one unified experience.
The latest version of the game is numbered 1.08 and introduces many major changes.
- First of all, an eighth chapter has been added to the story campaign, consisting of six missions for the Allies.
- In addition, the option to play the entire campaign in cooperative mode for up to six players has been implemented.
- New difficulty levels have also been introduced and the old ones reworked. In practice, this gave us one extremely difficult level (the so-called Brutal Mode), while the Easy mode has become even easier than before.
- The game has gained an interactive encyclopedia.
- The multiplayer mode has been expanded with a new map (Battle Lab) designed for 2v2 matches.
- Many gameplay mechanics and faction balance issues have been improved, and numerous technical bugs have been fixed as well.
Combined Arms is a complete, free game, not an addition to another game. It’s built using the OpenRA engine (version 1.08 uses the newest version), letting players experience the classic Command & Conquer series with updated graphics, widescreen support, and online multiplayer through a fan-maintained network.
The developers of Combined Arms drew heavily from the classic games Command & Conquer and Red Alert. However, you don’t need to own those original titles to play it, as Electronic Arts released them as free downloads back in 2008.
Command & Conquer: Combined Arms introduces a unique war featuring four distinct factions: the familiar NOD and GDI from the Tiberium series, and the Allies and Soviets from Red Alert. While this combination might seem unusual, the developers have successfully balanced the armies, and the game boasts a compelling story campaign.
