For over half a year now, Paramount+ has brought back the beloved spin-off of the iconic sitcom Cheers, titled Frasier. This reboot made its debut 30 years after the original show first aired on NBC. During its peak, Frasier was a TV ratings powerhouse. However, as of now, it appears to be losing steam on streaming platforms.
I’ve been thoroughly enjoying “Frasier,” streaming on Paramount+. As of July 4th, it ranks sixth among their top 10 TV shows, a slight drop from its number five position earlier this week. Interestingly, it’s now being outpaced by “Everybody Loves Raymond,” which has climbed to the fifth spot in the Top 10. Both these shows are timeless classics that I hold in high regard.
In terms of popularity, the long-running drama series on CBS called “Criminal Minds” takes the top spot. The third position is occupied by “The Chi,” a show airing on Showtime. “NCIS” and “SpongeBob SquarePants” occupy the third and fourth positions in the Top 10 rankings, respectively.
The Reboot Lasted Just Two Seasons
In a brief revival on Paramount+, Frasier made a comeback for two seasons. This time around, Dr. Frasier Crane, portrayed by Kelsey Grammer, returned to Boston from Seattle to teach at Harvard University. He also renewed his relationship with his son, Freddy, played by Jack Cutmore-Scott. The revamped version of Frasier brought back several characters from the original show, such as Peri Gilpin as Roz and Bebe Neuwirth as Dr. Lilith Sternin, Frasier’s ex.
In the recent restart, several fresh faces joined the team, however, noticeably absent were Frasier’s brother Niles, as well as Daphne Moon, played by Jane Leeves.
During the initial run of the television series “Frasier” on NBC, the show was astoundingly awarded a total of 37 Primetime Emmy Awards. In contrast, another show, namely “Cheers”, garnered 28 Emmys throughout its 11 seasons on NBC. Kelsey Grammer won four Emmys for his portrayal of Frasier, while David Hyde Pierce earned four for his role as Niles.

Grammer Thinks There’s Another Home for the Frasier Revival
Following the abandonment of the reboot, Grammer, being an executive producer of the show, communicated this news to the team.
In March 2025, Grammer stated that there was a more suitable home for the series after its cancellation in January. He explained, “To be honest, they didn’t invest much time or promotion into it. The person from Paramount+ who initially acquired the show left, and it seemed like they just took it over without knowing quite what to do with it. I believe they gave it a chance, but they weren’t deeply invested in the project.
He went on to say, “We’re headed towards a place where there’s a lot of enthusiasm for it. Let me tell you, it has a massive fanbase, a strong community, and once they know how to access it, I believe they will.
Beast will be Back in Avengers: Doomsday
Grammer’s character will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming film “Avengers: Doomsday,” which is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. Previously, Grammer portrayed this character in the X-Men series and will also be seen in 2023’s “The Marvels.
Frasier and its 2023 reboot are both streaming on Paramount+.
