It’s a family reunion!
Frankie Muniz shared a backstage picture from the set of Disney+’s “Malcolm in the Middle” remake, catching up once more with his TV parents Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek.
In this updated version of the classic sitcom, each actor once again takes on their original characters: Malcolm, Hal, and Lois. As suggested by the series’ tagline for its four-episode comeback, “Malcolm is called upon to join in his family’s madness when Hal and Lois request his attendance for their 40th wedding anniversary celebration, dragging him back into their chaos.
Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield will once again play Francis and Reese in the upcoming series, but Erik Per Sullivan won’t be reprising his role as Dewey. Instead, Caleb Ellsworth-Clark from “Fargo” and “The Expanse” has been cast to fill those shoes. (Sullivan largely moved away from acting following the end of “Malcolm in the Middle” in 2006, with his last credited role being in 2010.)
According to exclusive news from EbMaster, Kiana Madeira has been cast as Tristan, the girlfriend of the main character Malcolm. The series will also feature Anthony Timpano, Vaughan Murrae, and Keeley Karsten in key roles. Timpano is set to play Malcolm’s younger brother Jamie, while Murrae takes on the role of Malcolm’s youngest sibling Kelly. Lastly, Karsten portrays Malcolm’s daughter Leah.
Jamie first appeared in the fourth season of “Malcolm in the Middle,” whereas Kelly’s character was subtly foreshadowed during the series finale. It was then disclosed that Hal and Lois were expecting their sixth child. Kelly is characterized as self-reliant and more knowledgeable than most of the family. Conversely, Leah shares her father Malcolm’s sarcasm, impulsiveness, and exceptional intelligence, but she is much more empathetic and emotionally expressive.
