Frankie Muniz Reunites With Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek as ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Revival Films: ‘Always Good to Have Mom and Dad Around!’

It’s a family reunion!

Frankie Muniz shared a backstage picture during the shooting of Disney+’s “Malcolm in the Middle” reboot, bringing together his on-screen parents Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek once more.

In this contemporary reimagining of the cherished sitcom, I find myself stepping back into my roles as Malcolm, Hal, and Lois. As suggested by the series’ tagline for the four-episode comeback, “My return is necessitated when Hal and Lois insist I attend their 40th wedding anniversary party, causing a whirlwind of family chaos once more.

I’m excited to share that both Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield are back as Francis and Reese for the upcoming series, respectively. Unfortunately, Erik Per Sullivan won’t be returning as Dewey this time around. Instead, Caleb Ellsworth-Clark from “Fargo” and “The Expanse” will step into the role. Previously, Sullivan chose to focus more on other aspects of life following the end of “Malcolm in the Middle” in 2006, with his last acting credit coming in 2010.

It was exclusively announced by EbMaster that Kiana Madeira has been cast as Tristan, the girlfriend of the character Malcolm. The series will additionally feature Anthony Timpano, known for “Riverdale” and “Nancy Drew”, who will portray Malcolm’s younger brother Jamie. Vaughan Murrae from “Before I Change My Mind” and “The Way Home” is set to play Malcolm’s youngest sibling Kelly. Lastly, Keeley Karsten from “The Fabelmans” and “Hunters” will take on the role of Malcolm’s daughter Leah.

Jamie first appeared in the fourth season of “Malcolm in the Middle,” whereas Kelly, who was hinted at during the series finale, is a fresh character. It was revealed in the finale that Hal and Lois were expecting their sixth child. Kelly is characterized as independent and already wise beyond her years compared to most family members. On the other hand, Leah shares the same sarcastic wit, impulsiveness, and exceptional intelligence as her father Malcolm, but she’s much more sensitive and emotional.
