France’s Newen Studios Buys Majority Stake in U.S. Television Banner Johnson Production Group

As a movie buff with a deep appreciation for the behind-the-scenes workings of the television industry, I am thrilled to see Newen Studios making strategic moves to expand its presence in English language markets. Having followed the company’s growth and success in Europe, I am particularly intrigued by their recent acquisition of a majority stake in Johnson Production Group (JPG).

To boost its presence in the English-speaking market for television, the French company Newen Studios has purchased a large share of the American production company Johnson Production Group.

Newen, a company owned by major French broadcasting group TF1, announced that this purchase was aligned with their plan to expand and obtain international intellectual properties. Primarily holding European production labels, they have already established a presence in North America through the acquisition of Reel One back in 2019.

Timothy O. Johnson, founder and president of Johnson Production Group, established in 1992, will remain at the helm of this renowned film company. Known for its annual output of over 40 films, Johnson Production Group specializes in packaging, financing, and distributing a diverse range of movies. Their portfolio includes thrillers, actions, romantic comedies, dramas, and more. Some of their notable productions are “Christmas at Pemberley Manor,” “Love on the Slopes,” “Falling in Niagara,” “Hotwired in Suburbia,” and “Noel Next Door.”

I’m thrilled to have joined Newen Studios as their new CEO, having previously led Warner Bros. France. With the recent signing of the acquisition agreement, I believe we’re taking a significant leap forward in our group’s growth and global expansion.

“Now that we produce TV movies with Reel One and distribute them with JPG, we’re quickly rising as a top contender in global production and distribution. Our connection to the North American market remains advantageous,” he added.

Johnsson added, “Newen makes an ideal strategic collaborator for us as we navigate this rapidly changing market. Together, JPG and our allies will be able to offer top-notch television and films to clients around the world, backed by Newen’s financial resources, distribution network, and extensive reach.”

The company based in the US has been responsible for creating over 3000 hours of network television at an expense of over $1 billion.)
