Fox Surprises Comic-Con Attendee With $3,000 Prize at ‘Universal Basic Guys’ Panel

As a longtime Comic-Con attendee and avid fan of animated television, I can’t help but feel a pang of envy toward the lucky winner who received that special “You are a weiner” sticker at Fox’s “Universal Basic Guys” panel. The thrill of being randomly chosen from a sea of passionate fans to receive a life-changing prize is something I’ve only experienced in my wildest dreams.

At Thursday night’s Comic-Con panel for Fox’s new animated series “Universal Basic Guys” in San Diego, Fox surprised one fortunate audience member with an extraordinary gift. Among the swag bags distributed to all attendees at the ballroom in the convention center, there was one distinctive bag adorned with a special sticker. This lucky find contained $3,000 for its winner.

In reality, the label read “You’re a hot dog!” due to its shape. The idea behind “Universal Basic Guys,” which focuses on two siblings who lose their jobs at a hot dog factory to automation, involves them receiving $3,000 monthly as part of a new income support program. This series showcases their unexpected freedom and financial resources, allowing for some absurd escapades.

Adam and Craig Malamut, the show’s creators and voices of Mark and Hank Hoagies respectively, announced an unexpected twist during a recent interview. They shared additional information about their new series, “Universal Basic Guys,” which is set to debut on September 8, right after an NFL doubleheader on Fox.

In addition to Adam Malamut, the “Universal Basic Guys” cast includes Talia Genevieve as Tammy, Fred Armisen as David, and Ally Maki as Andrea. Fox has announced that they have renewed the show for a second season before its debut.

“The comedy series ‘Universal Basic Guys’ is produced by Fox Entertainment in partnership with Bento Box Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television. Adam and Craig Malamut, who recently signed an overall deal with Sony Pictures TV, are the creators and executive producers. Dan Lagana oversaw Season 1, while Rob Rosell takes charge of Season 2 as showrunner.”

As a passionate film enthusiast, I once attended an engaging panel where attendees were given a delightful “swag bag.” Inside mine, I found a trendy “Universal Basic Guys” bucket hat, a savory hot dog, some crunchy chips, and the choice between water or soda. Yet, what set one lucky recipient apart was the presence of a unique winning sticker on their bag. Their joy knew no bounds when they were rewarded with an impressive $3,000 check!

As I strolled through the bustling Comic-Con crowd, I couldn’t help but notice Fox and “Universal Basic Guys” making a splash with their unique marketing strategy. They weren’t just limited to the panel prize – they brought “real-life Mark Hoagies” characters to life, roaming around the convention center and Gaslamp District. And here’s the twist: they left QR codes in their wake, offering Comic-Con goers additional opportunities to win some cold hard cash. Who knew attending a comic convention could be so lucrative?

At Comic-Con on Thursday, Fox showcased “Universal Basic Income” and “Krapopolis,” the latter of which they have re-upped for a fourth season, from Fox’s lineup.
