Former Bungie Devs Create TeamLFG Under PlayStation Studios

Sony recently unveiled a fresh, in-house game development team known as TeamLFG. This group consists of ex-Bungie employees who separated to establish their own studio amidst the large-scale job cuts at Bungie last year.

On the PlayStation Blog, the debut of TeamLFG was revealed, showcasing sneak peeks into their ongoing projects from their new studio based in Bellevue, Washington. In a statement, TeamLFG described their inaugural project as an action game that combines elements from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life simulators, and games featuring frog-like characters. The game will immerse players in a humorous, comedic world within a unique, mythical, science-fantasy universe.

It appears that the information about TeamLFG and SIE Studio Business Group CEO Hermen Hulst stating that this studio “came from Bungie,” suggests they might be developing a game initially hinted at by Bungie in 2023. This project was among several experimental endeavors initiated by Bungie in the early 2020s, but unlike Marathon, it won’t be published by Bungie directly. Last year, Bungie reduced its workforce by approximately 17%, which resulted in layoffs. Some of these developers were absorbed into Sony Interactive Entertainment, while others formed TeamLFG.

In their own words, TeamLFG expresses a deep-rooted enthusiasm for creating action-packed games that offer engaging gameplay moments, a sense of connection in virtual environments, and social interaction. Notably, the ‘LFG’ in their studio name represents “Searching for Group,” reflecting their focus on multiplayer gaming experiences. Moreover, TeamLFG plans to actively incorporate player input during development and will conduct early-access playtests for their upcoming game, allowing players to have a say in its evolution.

Currently, there’s no name or scheduled date for the debut game by TeamLFG. However, Bungie has announced that Destiny 2’s expansion “The Edge of Fate” is set to release on July 15.
