Forgotten Overwatch 2 character teased as future hero in new animated trailer

In the latest teaser for Overwatch 2‘s new hero, Freja, there’s strong indication that a much-demanded non-playable character may become playable in the game down the line.

In the coming months, Overwatch will be introducing several new characters, such as the upcoming Damage Per Second (DPS) character Freja and a support hero referred to as Aqua. Furthermore, there’s speculation about a future character with a gladiator-like feel who might take on the Tank role.

In contrast, it appears that Blizzard is putting significant effort into hinting at new characters. A familiar figure from the background was subtly introduced as an enigmatic teaser within Freja’s hero video. If this trend continues, this much-anticipated and oft-requested character could make its debut as a playable option.

Emre Sarioglu teased in new Overwatch 2 trailer

Emre Sarioglu is a character from Turkey who entered Overwatch following the Omnic Crisis and was initially hinted at in 2018. Back then, players were hopeful that Emre would be the 27th playable character, but it turned out to be Brigitte who received this role as a response to an overpowering dive strategy.

Ever since the launch of Overwatch 2, Emre has been subject to recurring jibes. Sojourn frequently makes references to Emre that seem to suggest upcoming playable characters, and there’s even an in-game title known as “EmreMain” which is a streamer mode option.

It appears that Emre is now more prominently featured following his initial cameo in Freja’s animated hero preview. At the end of the trailer, Maximilien assigns Freja with tracking down Emre as her next target, suggesting a greater significance for Emre within the storyline in the future.

Enthusiasts couldn’t hide their joy upon the disclosure, as numerous members of the community seemed to be noticeably thrilled about Emre rather than Freja herself.

The revelation brought uncontainable excitement among fans, with several members from the community showing more enthusiasm for Emre compared to Freja herself.

One user playfully quipped, “The fact that she was outshone by both Maximilien and an individual named Emre, as hinted in her own trailer, had me laughing,” he said. “She may have come across as ‘cool,’ but honestly, with Max and Emre around, who even pays attention to her?

So far, there hasn’t been an announcement of significant scale regarding the appearance of Emre in the storyline. However, he has been hinted at previously, and other heroes have already been confirmed for future appearances. Therefore, it’s not guaranteed that we’ll see Emre at some point, but given the dramatic way he was introduced, it seems unlikely that his character won’t play a role in the storyline moving forward.

For now, players can anticipate the launch of a Freja Hero Trial on March 21, which will allow them to try out the upcoming Damage hero set to join the game.
