Has a forehead kiss between two high-school sweethearts ever been so poignant? The first season of Netflix’s adaptation of Judy Blume’s ‘Forever‘ concluded with Keisha (Lovie Simone), bound for college, and Justin (Michael Cooper Jr.), an aspiring music producer, reuniting. As Keisha departed for her educational journey while Frank Ocean’s “Moon River” played softly in the background, Justin expressed hope that they might be ready for each other in ten years, sealing their bittersweet farewell with a tender forehead kiss. Fortunately for fans, they won’t have to wait a decade to find out more about their story. Below, all the details we currently know about the second season of ‘Forever’.
Will Forever have a season two?
Netflix has decided to continue the series “Forever” for a second season, making the announcement at its Upfronts on May 14, six days after the show’s debut. As creator Mara Brock Akil explained, “This series wasn’t just about first love; it was about being recognized, about allowing teenagers to be complex and authentic. The world responded positively, and we’re delighted that they did. In season two, we’ll write a heartfelt letter back to our audience who said ‘Yes, I see myself in this.’ We’re thrilled, we’re eager, and we’re prepared to delve even further.
What will it be about?
Mara Brock Akil has started contemplating the upcoming phases of her life and those of her characters. She pondered, during an interview with Tudum, “Who will they become in their next stage or during that initial semester?” She expressed interest in exploring who Keisha might become when she’s no longer with Howard, her first boyfriend. For Justin, she wants to delve into what he’ll accomplish during his gap year, now that he has a sense of direction. It’s important for him to discover who he is beyond his relationship with Keisha.
The story depicted in the series titled “Forever” may have been inspired by the Judy Blume novel of the same name, but it doesn’t provide any further indications due to significant differences between the two. For instance, while the book is set in 1975 New Jersey, the series takes place in Los Angeles in 2018. Moreover, Judy Blume never penned a sequel for her “provocative” novel concerning adolescent sexuality.
Who’s going to be in season two?
Lovie Simone and Michael Cooper Jr. are likely coming back to play Keisha and Justin again, but there’s no definitive word yet on who else will be joining the cast. For Keisha’s plot, it seems new characters will be needed. There’s an intriguing possibility that Taraji P. Henson, a graduate of Howard University, could make a special appearance as a math professor since she excels at writing equations on blackboards, much like her role in the movie “Hidden Figures.
When will it be out?
In her announcement, Brock Akil hinted, “Season 2 is on its way!” Implying it’s not like the prolonged wait for new episodes in the case of Stranger Things. We’re eagerly anticipating its arrival but let’s hope it won’t take forever.
