Netflix has given the go-ahead for additional seasons of two popular teenage romance series: “Forever” will be returning for its second season, while “My Life with the Walter Boys” has already been approved for a third season before its upcoming second season airs this year.
The news was announced during Netflix’s presentation in New York on a Wednesday, following the premiere of “Forever” Season 1 on May 8th. This series ranked third on Netflix’s Top 10 list with approximately 3.7 million views within its first four days of release.
Produced by Mara Brock Akil, the series “Forever” is a modern take on Judy Blume’s 1975 novel of the same name, where characters are now Black teenagers from Los Angeles in the year 2018. Michael Cooper Jr. and Lovie Simone play Justin Edwards and Keisha Clark, who navigate the complexities of love and self-discovery as they experience their first romantic encounters, according to the show’s summary. The ensemble cast also includes Karen Pittman, Wood Harris, Xosha Roquemore, Marvin Winans III, Niles Fitch, Barry Shabaka Henley, Ali Gallo, Adriyan Rae, Paigion Walker, Xavier Mills, E’myri Crutchfield and Yusef Thomas.
Akil plays the role of both showrunner and executive producer, collaborating with Blume, Susie Fitzgerald, Erika Harrison, Sara White, Regina King, Reina King, Shana C. Waterman, and Anthony Hemingway on this project.
Akil stated that the series was not solely about first love; it was about being acknowledged, about allowing teenagers to be vulnerable, nuanced, and authentic. The audience responded to this, and now, we’re expressing our gratitude by offering more. We’re thrilled, we’re eager, and we’re prepared to delve even further. Thank you to Netflix – Season 2 is on its way!
The story ‘My Life With the Walter Boys’ is adapted from Ali Novak’s 2014 novel of the same name. In essence, it tells about 15-year-old Jackie Howard who, after a tragic family accident, finds herself in rural Colorado, learning to cope with her new life under the care of her guardian and eight boisterous boys.
As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that an impressive lineup of talented actors is joining this upcoming production. The cast includes Nikki Rodriguez, Sarah Rafferty, Marc Blucas, Noah LaLonde, Ashby Gentry, Connor Stanhope, Johnny Link, Corey Fogelmanis, Jaylan Evans, Zoë Soul, Isaac Arellanes, Myles Perez, Alex Quijano, Ashley Tavares, Dean Petriw, Alix West Lefler, Lennix James, Alisha Newton, Ellie O’Brien, Kolton Stewart, Mya Lowe, Gabrielle Jacinto, Jesse Lipscombe, Nathaniel Arcand, Natalie Sharp, Carson MacCormac, Janet Kidder, Riele Downs, and Jake Manley.
For eight consecutive weeks following its December 2023 debut, “My Life With the Walter Boys” Season 1 ranked among the top ten most-watched English language series on Netflix.
The television series is overseen by showrunner Melanie Halsall, along with Ed Glauser and Becky Hartman Edwards, who are also executive producers. It’s jointly produced by Sony Pictures Television, International Production, and iGeneration Studios.
