For Actor Playing Arthur in RDR2, Only One Final Choice Is Canon; The Other Makes No Sense

As a seasoned cowboy who’s ridden the dusty trails of New Hanover and the vast plains of West Elizabeth, I can wholeheartedly say that Red Dead Redemption II is a masterpiece, a tale as wild and unpredictable as the frontier itself. The story of Arthur Morgan, a man with a heart of gold but a soul as weary as an old horse, resonated deeply with me, for his struggles mirrored my own experiences on the trail.

Red Dead Redemption II, developed by Rockstar Studios, is widely regarded as one of their top games. The game’s appeal stems from its captivating cowboy setting and an emotional narrative with a poignant conclusion that we can partially shape. In the final act of Arthur Morgan’s tale, we’re faced with a decisive decision.

Choice

Warning! The following text contains major spoilers from Red Dead Redemption II.

Following a heated confrontation between John Marston and Dutch, we find ourselves facing a crucial decision: either help him escape safely (a noble choice) or focus on retrieving the money stolen during Blackwater (often seen as unscrupulous). Given Arthur’s advanced tuberculosis, it’s essential to keep in mind that his chances of recovery are slim.

What does the canon look like according to Roger Clark?

In the perspective of Roger Clark, the voice actor playing Morgan in the game, it’s quite apparent for him – he chooses to help John. He articulated this point during a question-and-answer session organized by the Gamology channel on YouTube.

Instead of returning for the money, it seems more meaningful to me that Arthur could assist John instead. Given Arthur’s situation, money may not bring him much benefit anymore. Therefore, I believe a noble ending for Arthur would be to help John.

Of course, this is just Clark’s perspective. If one chooses to portray Arthur as a self-serving bandit throughout, their preferred conclusion might involve him returning for personal gain. And rest assured, there’s no right or wrong in that choice.
