As a seasoned gamer, I have seen my fair share of characters making questionable decisions in virtual worlds. However, it seems that some individuals, like Marlena Valez, are taking this concept of poor decision-making to real life.
A woman in Cape Coral, Florida, has been arrested for shoplifting after she posted a video on TikTok showing her allegedly stolen haul from Target.
On November 20th, the local Target store contacted the Cape Coral police due to an earlier shoplifting incident at their establishment.
On October 30th, it was reported that a woman named Marlena Valez walked into the store and picked up merchandise from the racks. Later, at the self-checkout, authorities claim that Valez used a false barcode to get cheaper prices on her items.
According to reports, a total of 16 items worth $500 were taken, and authorities examined surveillance footage hoping to find the woman responsible. Later, they shared a photo of Valez on Instagram, leading users to recognize her and provide the Police Department with her social media accounts.
The videos shared by her on Instagram and TikTok aided the police in recognizing Valez. In one of these videos, she was seen wearing the exact same attire as she did in the CCTV footage from the Target store in town.

Valez’s Instagram and TikTok profiles are no longer available, however, a segment of the videos she posted on both platforms is displayed in a recent post by the Cape Coral Police Department on their Instagram page.
On November 21, the woman was taken into custody but was soon freed on a $150 bail, which she paid in cash, as stated by the Lee County Jail’s official site.
It’s not just Valez who has faced arrest among TikTok influencers this year; back in May, Bryanthediamond was taken into custody for driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident. This incident resulted in charges against him and sparked criticism from his followers.
In October, social media personality Mr. Prada was taken into custody and indicted for second-degree murder. The accusation is that he killed his therapist and subsequently took his vehicle following the alleged incident.
