Focus on the Parents of Brian Laundrie Shifts Again: Neighbors in Florida are said to be aiming hostile actions at the residence of Gabby Petito’s boyfriend’s parents, allegedly hurling items such as dirty diapers and dog feces towards it.
This week, a fresh documentary series debuted on Netflix, offering insights through conversations with Gabby’s loved ones, acquaintances, and the police officers tasked with resolving her disappearance in August 2021.
Following the murder of Gabby, investigators discovered that Brian Laundrie spoke to his mother Roberta Laundrie for an hour afterwards. Not long after this conversation, Brian’s father, Christopher Laundrie, contacted a lawyer.
Initially, both Brian Laundrie’s parents and his sister, Cassie Laundrie, were characterized as unhelpful, declining to give clear responses regarding the events that transpired. As a result, they are now receiving criticism not just from online communities but also from locals.
Roberta and Christopher Laundrie face backlash from neighbors
Some residents in North Port, Florida, who live near Christopher and Roberta, have shared that their social exclusion increased following the media coverage of the case, but it has become more pronounced after the airing of the documentary “American Murder: Gabby Petito.
Speaking to the New York Post, Miriam Woodby, living close to the Laundrie residence, expressed her growing irritation. “The more I observed,” she said, “the angrier I became. Whenever I pass their house, a sense of nausea rises in me. I dislike them intensely, despite never having met them. I wish they would simply depart.
A nearby resident, preferring not to be identified, shared with the news outlet, “They are truly awful individuals, as far as I’m concerned. Everybody feels the same way. No one wants any connection with them.” However, it’s not just negative sentiments that have kept them at arm’s length from the community.
A resident nearby, who wished to stay hidden, told the news source, “I think they are really bad people. Everyone agrees. Nobody wants anything to do with them.” Yet, it’s not just that people dislike them; they have been deliberately avoided by locals as well.

Living close to The Laundries, Jorge Ruiz shared that some local residents have disrespectfully discarded trash in their yard, such as dog feces and used diapers. On more than one instance, he observed individuals hurling offensive remarks at Roberta upon her departure from her home, en route to her vehicle.
That’s the consequence. That’s the consequence when you choose to inflict suffering on the innocent to shield the guilty. You will experience the consequences of your actions.” He further commented, “You reap what you sow,” meaning that the actions you take now will have corresponding outcomes later on.
Another nearby resident expressed, “I genuinely wish them utter misfortune. Honestly, I pray they understand just how disliked they are around here. I believe they should be aware that they have no allies.
A local shared that this family had caused harm to her, and the unfortunate incident took place right across the street.
Why American Murder viewers are angry
Prior to the murder of Gabby, Roberta was already facing accusations that she distanced herself from Gabby when Brian and she moved in with the Laundrie family in Florida.
In the Netflix documentary, Gabby’s mother, Nichole Schmidt, describes her jealousy as quite unusual.
Last night, Gabby shared a peculiar incident at dinner: Brian’s mother seemed distraught because no one was giving attention to her pie. It struck me as odd since she appeared upset and didn’t seem to engage with the others. To be honest, I found it quite unusual.
Additionally, it’s noted that the parents conversed with the police officers after Gabby went missing. Instead of responding to the officers’ inquiries, they chose to remain silent until their legal representative was present.
It turns out that Brian left Gabby’s place following the act of killing her, without informing her family or the authorities about his actions.
In the true-crime series American Murder, Nicole is seen sending text messages pleading for any details on the whereabouts of her daughter, yet the Laundries chose not to reply.
The lawyer informed TopMob that given the lack of sufficient evidence, it’s improbable they will be held accountable for their actions in this case, since it would be challenging to establish their guilt “beyond any reasonable doubt.
This statement applies equally to the letter marked ‘burn after reading’ that the FBI discovered, where Roberta wrote to her son: “If you find yourself in jail, I’ll make a cake containing a file. If you require assistance disposing of a body, I’ll arrive with a shovel and trash bags.
Ben Michael, an Attorney at M & A Criminal Defense Attorneys, explained that while Roberta Laundrie had written a letter expressing statements such as “if you need to dispose of a body, I will show up with a shovel and garbage bags,” the exact date when this letter was penned couldn’t be definitively established.
