FKA Twigs Accuses Shia LaBeouf of ‘Egregiously Evasive’ Legal Tactics Ahead of Sexual Battery Case Trial Date Hearing

As someone who has followed this high-profile case closely, I find myself deeply saddened and frustrated by the ongoing legal battles between FKA Twigs and Shia LaBeouf. The accusations of sexual battery, assault, and infliction of emotional distress are grave matters that should be addressed promptly and honestly.

As a dedicated cinema enthusiast, I’ve been closely following the developing saga between musician FKA Twigs and actor Shia LaBeouf, who she sued four years ago for sexual battery, assault, and emotional distress. The spotlight on this high-profile case has intensified recently, with a series of legal maneuvers over the weekend that have added fuel to the fire. The allegations include missing electronic devices, conflicting schedules, and both parties evading depositions, making it challenging for the truth to come to light.

On October 18th, I, Tahliah Debrett Barnett (also known as FKA Twigs), submitted a strong declaration to the court regarding Shia LaBeouf’s neglect of essential discovery responsibilities. I mentioned that he mysteriously became inaccessible just when we were scheduled for our lengthy deposition on October 11th.

In my perspective, I’ve found Shia LaBeouf’s reactions to the requested documentation in this case to be disturbingly uncooperative and noncommittal. This has led to a production of documents that amount to just nine pages. It seems suspicious that LaBeouf has claimed he no longer possesses or controls any other responsive documents, suggesting they may have been lost, misplaced, or intentionally destroyed before the start of this case. On the other hand, the singer-actress has been extremely forthcoming, supplying a large volume of relevant documents and detailed responses.

Her statement also accused the “Transformers” actor of bailing on an agreed-upon deposition.

At the very last moment, LaBeouf unexpectedly declines to be questioned first, even though lawyers from both sides had previously agreed that they would each be questioned within the same week, with LaBeouf being questioned first. The filing states that LaBeouf has broken his long-standing agreement, which leaves the parties no choice but to ask the court for help.

Later on, lawyers representing LaBeouf retaliated by asserting that FKA Twigs has been so occupied with work during the last two years that she couldn’t spare the time to attend her deposition.

Shawn Holley, a key member of LaBeouf’s legal team, is currently heavily involved in the extensive legal matter concerning Sean “Diddy” Combs, which is simultaneously unfolding in criminal and civil courts across different jurisdictions. Meanwhile, Bryan Freedman stands as the representative for FKA Twigs.

Reflecting back on events of late 2019 and early 2020, I found myself embroiled in an unsettling ordeal with a former partner, an actor who once portrayed a psychotic gangster in David Ayer’s “The Tax Collector.” In December 2020, I filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging that this man choked me while whispering menacing words, and during the same period in 2019, he threatened to crash the car we were in, physically assaulted me at a gas station after the initial threat, and even brandished a gun on set.

When the lawsuit was initiated, LaBeouf admitted that many of the accusations were false, but he confessed his struggles with alcoholism and aggression to The New York Times. He stated, “I have no justifications for my alcoholism or aggression; I only have excuses. For years, I have been abusive not only to myself but also to those around me. I am ashamed of this past behavior and apologize to those I have hurt.” (In later court documents, the actor stated he denies all allegations.)

The filing by FKA Twigs provides an insight into why the legal dispute between two celebrities has taken so long. According to her statement, both parties had agreed to be questioned at the same week in person, with LaBeouf being the first. Whenever a date was arranged, FKA Twigs would adjust her schedule and travel from London to Los Angeles. However, last-minute changes by LaBeouf allegedly caused repeated inconvenience, extending the court case, which is now scheduled for trial.

Had there been no existing agreement, LaBeouf would have been removed from his position years ago due to being a resident of Los Angeles. It’s quite manipulative not to abide by this agreement, causing complications and halting depositions as scheduled,” the statement points out.

However, LaBeouf’s legal team countered in a separate filing, stating there was never an actual agreement, and they accused the musician’s lawyers of playing “legal tricks.

In LaBeouf’s filing, it is stated that the plaintiff’s request to depose Shia first, in a case primarily based on conflicting statements, does not constitute a valid reason for granting a protective order in the plaintiff’s favor. It is argued that Shia should not be disadvantaged by the plaintiff’s tactics when defending against her $10 million claim.

As I eagerly await the upcoming court hearing on Friday, I can hardly contain my excitement for the moment when they’ll finally set a trial date for this intriguing legal case.
