Seems like we’re embarking on our sixth night at Freddy’s. Or perhaps it means there are five more nights to come at Freddy’s? Alternatively, could mean I have five extra nights ahead at Freddy’s.
It’s quite possible I’m overanalyzing this, as Universal seems to be labeling it as “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2″.
2023 saw the debut of a movie I was thoroughly captivated by. Remarkably, it was made available for both theater and streaming on Peacock on the same day. This unique release strategy proved to be a game-changer, raking in an astounding $300 million globally – a figure rarely achieved by films that can be watched at home concurrently.
Although the initial trailer doesn’t reveal much about the plot, it certainly hints at a lot of animatronic animal-related action, particularly violence. Here is the full first trailer for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2:

Here is the film’s official synopsis:
In the footsteps of Scott Cawthon’s popular game franchise, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is helmed by talented filmmaker Emma Tammi (The Wind, Blood Moon). The initial movie, which broke box office records with an opening of $80 million and later amassed nearly $300 million globally, follows Mike, a troubled individual seeking to secure custody of his sister. However, his decision to work as a night guard at the abandoned Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria inadvertently plunges him into the depths of a terrifying supernatural ordeal.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is set to debut in theaters on December 5.
The Funniest Horror Sequel Titles
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
George Romero, who re-entered the horror genre by creating a sequel to his groundbreaking zombie apocalypse film, “Night of the Living Dead,” titled “Dawn of the Dead” in 1978, found the former title too cumbersome. Instead of continuing the story of the original’s characters, “Dawn” explores a completely new narrative, shedding light on the ripple effects of a nationwide zombie outbreak and amplifying existing sociopolitical issues. The movie primarily unfolds within a shopping mall in a city overrun by zombies, offering a critical lens on the insidious consumerism and excessive police force that pose threats to our cities. Unlike “Night of the Living Dead,” which focuses on one group’s survival during a single night, “Dawn of the Dead” envisions the ongoing impact of this affliction on society.
Aliens (1986)
According to legend, when director James Cameron proposed his idea for an Alien sequel, he wrote down the word “ALIEN” and turned it into a dollar sign by adding two lines through it. This story has been confirmed as true by Cameron himself, and it may have helped convince the producers to move forward with the project. Although naming the film Alien$ would have been too blatant a money-grab, the title Aliens was an ideal choice for a sequel since it hinted at multiple aliens in this installment, leaving Ripley with quite the escape dilemma.
Tremors 2: Aftershocks (1996)
It’s only logical for a movie series about giant underground predator worms causing earthquakes, like the “Tremors” franchise, to incorporate seismic terms in its titles. True to form, the second installment, titled “Tremors 2: Aftershocks“, does exactly that. This sequel not only delivers more outlandish Graboid action, but also introduces a new, even more terrifying creature: bipedal monsters known as Shriekers. While a title like “Aftershocks” would have been daring, the studio likely opted for the more recognizable “Tremors 2: Aftershocks“, to make it clear that this is indeed a sequel to the original “Tremors” movie. This film was released directly to video following an extremely limited international theater release.
I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998)
The title “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is quite lengthy for a teen slasher film, and its sequel’s title extends it even further. Fortunately, “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” serves as both a sequel title and a witty nod to the audience about the ongoing joke. However, since the characters are threatened by the same vengeful antagonist from the first film, wouldn’t a more precise title be “I Still Know What You Did Two Summers Ago”? Unfortunately, that doesn’t have the same catchy feel. Maintaining the theme, a third movie was released in 2006 to complete the trilogy, titled “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer”.
Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood (2003)
In the movie titled “Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood“, although it’s the sixth installment of the series, it serves as a sequel to the fifth film, “Leprechaun in the Hood“. Consequently, it can be considered the second movie in the “Hood” duology. In this film, the mischievous leprechaun Lubdan continues his malevolent ways in a Los Angeles neighborhood, targeting local youths who have discovered his gold hoard. He kills them in bizarre fashion – impaling someone with a bong, tearing out another’s gold tooth. However, he is eventually defeated by bullets laced with clover and a pool of wet concrete. Changing “to” to “2” in the title is a clever method to create an intriguing sequel name, and in the “Leprechaun” franchise, outrageous creativity is key to its appeal.
28 Weeks Later (2007)
In the chilling title “28 Days Later“, we can sense how swiftly the United Kingdom could disintegrate if its populace was infected by a lethal zombie virus. When it came to creating a sequel, the only logical move was to explore what would transpire in a slightly longer timeframe. Titled “28 Weeks Later“, the story unfolds seven months after the initial outbreak of the Rage Virus, following NATO’s efforts to control the virus and aid survivors and refugees while preventing its spread to Europe. However, an outbreak within one of the safe zones causes everything to crumble once again. The series continues with the ominous title “28 Years Later“, slated for release in 2025.
Happy Death Day 2U (2019)
In a playful manner, another film titled “Happy Death Day 2U” follows as the continuation of the slasher comedy “Happy Death Day,” which bears a resemblance to “Groundhog Day.” The original story centers around a college student who finds herself living the same day repeatedly after being murdered on her birthday by an unknown assailant. In the sequel, she once more gets stuck in this time loop, with the twist that this time, it also transports her into another dimension where certain elements differ significantly – for instance, her mother, deceased in her original universe, is alive in this one. Keeping consistent with its humorous birthday theme, “Happy Death Day 2U” represents a fitting title choice for this sequel.
Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)
In the continuation of the zombie movie “Zombieland,” which showcases a man’s strict survival guidelines amidst a desolate and dangerous post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies, the fitting title for the sequel was clearly going to be “Zombieland: Double Tap“. This moniker is derived from one of Columbus’ rules emphasizing the importance of verifying that a zombie is truly deceased before moving on. The story resumes a decade after the outbreak transformed America into a nightmare, following the same group of survivors as they journey together from Washington D.C. to Graceland in their quest for one of their own.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024)
To bring back Betelgeuse, the ghostly “bio-exorcist” from Tim Burton’s supernatural comedy “Beetlejuice”, you need to say his name three times. Saying it once or twice is acceptable, making it a fitting title for the sequel that reunites Lydia Deetz and Betelgeuse after over 30 years in the afterlife. The title “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” subtly references the rules of its world without violating them, hinting at the one action every character is warned against, which they all eventually do regardless.
M3GAN 2.0 (2025)
In the horror-comedy film M3GAN from 2022, the title character stands out as the menacing robot antagonist, a lifelike android designed to be the ultimate playmate for children. Amidst its comedic frights, the movie takes aim at tech companies, particularly those who market their kid-friendly products with catchy names, in an attempt to gain widespread appeal. It’s fitting, then, that the sequel to this blockbuster hit would be named M3GAN 2.0, hinting at the return of the beloved robot and some enhancements.
