‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ Trailer Brings the Mayhem as Blumhouse Unveils New ‘M3gan 2.0’ and ‘Black Phone 2’ Footage at CinemaCon

At CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Jason Blum’s home is teeming with excitement! On Tuesday, his horror production company, Blumhouse, presented four upcoming movies to captivate international cinema owners. These films are planned for a gradual release spanning up to 2025.

The films showcase robot girls with homicidal tendencies, animatronic mascots that are lethal, a menacing (possibly undead) Ethan Hawke in muscular form, and a sentient sex doll. This is consistent with the quality and themes we’ve come to appreciate from the creator of “Whiplash” and “BlacKkKlansman.

For the first time since merging with James Wan’s horror production company Atomic Monster (founder of hits like “The Conjuring” and “Insidious”), Blumhouse has showcased their offerings to exhibitors.

Here’s a rundown of the Blumhouse Wares:

Five Night’s at Freddy’s 2

It was an obvious decision for Blumhouse and their distribution partner Universal to release a second installment, given that the first movie broke multiple box office records during Halloween 2023. With a production budget of $20 million, the initial film grossed an impressive $132 million worldwide in its opening weekend. To add to this success, it was also available for streaming on NBCUniversal’s platform Peacock at the same time it hit cinemas. As a result, it surpassed the later “Halloween” sequels directed by David Gordon Green in popularity.

Although the CinemaCon trailer was short, it hinted at a scenario where the lethal robots would break free from their commercial establishment and continue their destructive spree on city streets.

The Black Phone 2

As a cinephile, let me tell you that the initial “Black Phone” movie was yet another impressive addition to the Blumhouse collection. On a budget of just $18 million, it managed to rake in an astounding $161 million worldwide. In this chilling tale, Ethan Hawke delivered an unforgettable performance as a particularly heinous character for a seasoned Hollywood actor – a pedophile serial killer infamously known as “The Grabber.” The story was originally conceived by Joe Hill, the son of horror maestro Stephen King, who also worked on the sequel’s development.
