As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the latest update for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on PlayStation 5 is music to my ears! After two long years, Insomniac Games has finally delivered an update that caters to both the casual and hardcore gamers among us.
For two incredible years now, Insomniac Games’ third-person shooter platform game, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, has been delighting players on PlayStation 5 consoles. Similar to other PlayStation games, it eventually found its way onto PCs after release, but while the PC version has benefited from several patch updates, the PS5 version has remained untouched until now.
Last weekend, the update version 1.005.000 for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was released on PlayStation 5 consoles, which took place in November 2024. This update includes exciting features that are eagerly awaited for the upcoming release of the PS5 Pro console. It was revealed during the State of Play presentation last month that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is among several PlayStation games set to be “improved by the PS5 Pro.” A summary of these improvements was shared on their YouTube channel in a game trailer.
Today, we’ve rolled out enhancements for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PlayStation 5 Pro. These updates introduce new visual settings such as Performance Plus and Quality Plus modes!

On October 25th, 2024, an update for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was released simultaneously. This newest update offers “new visual settings” specifically designed for the PlayStation 5 Pro console. These new visual settings come in two distinct modes: the Performance Mode, which will be activated by default at the console’s launch on November 7th, 2024, and the Fidelity Pro Mode. The developers have provided further details about both of these modes.
According to the update’s instructions, it’s suggested that most gamers choose the Performance Mode. This setting prioritizes a consistent 60 frames per second (FPS) and maintains the visual quality of the usual Fidelity mode, using PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). Furthermore, keep in mind that this particular mode has Ray Tracing enabled, which means you’ll see ray-traced reflections, ray-tracing on water surfaces, and ray-traced window interiors.
Instead of the Fidelity Pro Mode in Ratchet & Clank optimizes for 30 frames per second (FPS) to let players try out advanced ray-tracing graphical elements. By adjusting these settings separately, they can achieve higher intermediate frame rates, particularly when using VRR or 120 Hz Display Mode. Keep in mind that this may enhance pedestrian and traffic levels within the game, as well as affect finer details like hair texture.
