At Summer Game Fest 2026, we had a detailed preview of Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok. The expansion launches on July 9th for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Our preview included a media presentation, a new hands-on demo distinct from the recent open beta, and an in-depth interview with series director Tetsuya Fukuhara and Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok director Sanshiro Hidaka.
I’ve included a video of my hands-on demo of Endless Ragnarok from Summer Game Fest below. I’ve also shared some key details from the private media presentation. You can also read my full interview with Fukuhara-san and Hidaka-san, which was a group interview with RPG Site’s Scott White and another journalist.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok Hands-on at Summer Game Fest
Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok Media Presentation Key Details
Initial Development
- Cygames had no plans to develop Endless Ragnarok when Relink originally launched, but Relink received so much overwhelming enthusiasm and support from players that they decided to pursue it
- Since Relink was not designed to be a live-service game, Cygames felt that continual small, incremental updates wouldn’t meet players’ expectations, so they decided introduce all these features at once in a major expansion
- Development team didn’t just want to increase game’s content; they also wanted to brush up the original Relink game with a revamped UI & character balance adjustments
Length & Additional Fun Details
- Expect 1.5x the content & 2x the playtime in Endless Ragnarok
- Even if you rush, expect about 20-30 hours of additional content
- “Maglielle was our most requested character to become playable.”
- New Fatebreaker difficulty tier in Endless Ragnarok also includes returning bosses with brand-new mechanics
Summons
- Over 100 Summons in Endless Ragnarok – “every NPC and every enemy character”
- Hidaka predicts the most standard usage for Summons will be to avoid, counter, or soak dangerous boss attacks, since all Summons are invincible
Master Traits
- Hidaka’s comments
- “One of our goals was to give new experiences to veterans of certain characters, allowing more avenues for skill expression.”
- “As more information about strategies for Relink spread, certain character kits were considered to be the optimal way to play them, and we started to see variety fall out of the equation. We thought that was unfortunate, so we decided to add Master Traits.”
- “We wanted every mechanic to have its place in the game and be fun to use in battle.”
- “All of our cast has now been given multiple playstyles using this Master Traits system. Depending on the selected Master Traits style, strategies, and key skills, each character will start to feel different.”
- “The concept was inspired by Blizzard’s Diablo series, where dynamic build variety has always been the forefront of the series.”
- “Not every character has three different styles. You can increase Master Levels to unlock Traits for each character, which gradually build on each other to enhance aspects of a specific playstyle.”
- “Depending on the Master Trait style, some characters have new moves and stances that unlock.”
